In case you missed it: the new AECEO website is LIVE! 🥳

Whether you are looking for professional development opportunities, networking events or advocacy actions, doing research for school assignments, or simply seeking to stay informed about the work of the AECEO, our intention with this website update is to make it as easy as possible for the Ontario ECE community to access the resources and supports their professional association has to offer.

🔔IMPORTANT REMINDER FOR AECEO MEMBERS 🔔

The AECEO Annual Members Meeting (AMM) is happening on Zoon this coming Monday, September 28th, at 7:30PM. The AMM provides members with the opportunity to review and discuss AECEO activities in the 2025-26 fiscal year, meet nominees for the Board of Directors, review and discuss important motions, and be involved in governance of the organization.

If you are interested in learning more how your professional association works behind the scenes, joining the AMM is one of the ways you can do that. If you are not a member yet, or you need to renew your membership, today is a great day to do that! Members will receive the AMM info package and registration link in their inboxes this weekend!

This day recognizes the commitment, skills and hard work of early childhood professionals. Each year, the day is proclaimed by the OCBCC, the AECEO, CUPE, municipalities and school boards across Ontario, and is marked by hundreds of childcare centres, unions, and allies.

Early years professionals in the Windsor-Essex area, you're invited to an evening of fun activities, yummy treats and community building with the AECEO ✨

Join us on Wednesday, Oct. 7th, to make new ECE friends, grow your network, and learn about your professional association.

Come for the conversation, stay for the treats! We will be at Paradiso Cafe to welcome you from 6:30PM onwards. Our activities will start at 7PM. Whether you can join us for the whole event, or for just part of it, we'd love to connect with you!

Please note: AECEO Meet-Ups aren't formal meetings —the vibe is: you’re a kid coming to your after school program and we are the educators, ready to take care of you at the end of a long day 🧡

New resource alert! 📢

The AECEO and Migrant Workers Alliance for Change have put together an introductory resource to support early childhood educators and child care workers in understanding the importance of immigration policy and to highlight current challenges faced by migrant workers in our sector.

Why this matters:
Migrant early years professionals losing their jobs, homes, and communities due to expiring permits is a crisis for all of us. This is the reality that many migrant early years professionals have already faced, and thousands more will face over the next few months due to immigration policy change.

Immigration policy changes impact all workers in the sector: when one section of our workforce is facing specific vulnerabilities due to temporary immigration status, it worsens issues directly related to staff retention like low wages, poor working conditions, and lack of supports.

The solution, then, is to raise the floor for everyone. Want to learn more? Want to get involved?

A message from the AECEO in solidarity with RECEs in FDK & all public education workers (originally shared on August 30th - reposting revised version, with link to new AECEO website)

As children and families across Ontario get ready to start a new school year, education unions are undergoing collective bargaining (contract negotiations). The Association of Early Childhood Educators Ontario (AECEO) is proud to stand alongside Early Childhood Educators who work in the full-day kindergarten program, and every educator and support staff who make public education possible in our province.

All workers deserve working conditions that allow them to properly support students, and provide the high quality education and care Ontario children deserve. As the association representing ECEs in Ontario, and educators ourselves, we believe in decent work and professional pay for everyone working in public education. This is why the AECEO advocates for compensation and working conditions that recognize and honour the value, skills, and expertise of educators, no matter where they work. Educators’ working conditions are children’s learning conditions. Adequate funding and fair contracts are essential to sustain a public education system that not only survives, but actually thrives.

We are cognizant that this is a developing situation and we encourage ECEs to connect directly with their union for additional information. The AECEO remains committed to supporting ECEs across Ontario and we encourage everyone to join the AECEO mailing list to receive updates about this and other issues affecting ECEs in our province.

Recent changes to federal immigration policies are negatively impacting migrant workers in Canada, including thousands of RECEs, child care workers and international students currently working in the early years sector whose work permits are set to expire soon.

In this much anticipated episode of Circle Time with the AECEO, host Bre Piccolotto and Sarom Rho chat about a very important topic: Immigration in ECE. - Monday, Sept. 7th at 8AM (to march) or 9AM (to watch the parade), join the AECEO team and our union local CUPE 2484 at the Labour Day March. CUPE 2484 is leading the march as the first group in the parade! All participants will receive admission to the CNE and children will ride for free. Check CUPE Local 2484 Childcare Workers for more information
- Monday, Sept. 14th, join us at 7:30PM for Heating Up, Burning Out: ECE Work in the Climate Crisis, an interactive online session where we will talk about what decent work looks like in a changing climate
- Thursday, Sept. 17th, join the AECEO and the Migrant Workers Alliance for Change (MWAC) for an online session where we will address the impacts of temporary work status in ECE and how it affects everyone in the sector.
