Once again this year, both French levels have had the opportunity to correspond with a class of Grade 10 students in Valentigney, a town in north-eastern France. Their first letters focused on introducing themselves and explaining their likes, dislikes, and career aspirations, as well as posing a few questions to their pen pals. Receiving their replies back was very exciting! It was an engaging way to learn about French culture and apply their classroom learning in a real-world context.

We were thrilled to host our 3rd Annual East-End Montessori Soccer Tournament on Friday. With beautiful weather, great sportsmanship, and an enthusiastic crowd of Grade 4–8 students from local Montessori schools, the event was a tremendous success. A special thank you to all the students and staff who participated. We’re already looking forward to next year!

Once again this year, one of the math groups explored the world of personal finance. They began by creating a personal financial vision: a plan for their future career and lifestyle. After learning about key terms such as credit and compound interest, they created three Excel spreadsheets showing their planned inflation-adjusted annual income and line-by-line expenses over 10 years, their mortgage calculations, and their future net worth. The project emphasized the relationship between interest rate, time, and final return, showing students that exponential growth can work in their favour if they start saving and investing early in life.

In honour of Earth Day, the students donned plastic gloves and gathered up as much trash as they could find at Woodbine Park. They did a great job, and the fields and playground are looking much cleaner!

An understanding of personal health, development, and relationships is essential for informed and responsible decision-making during adolescence. This spring, Hugh will be guiding the students through group lessons and written resources on substance use, human development, sexual health, and healthy relationships. These conversations will help equip students with the knowledge and confidence they need to make thoughtful, healthy choices as they grow.
