Do you know that the number of international students in Canada reached 35,300 in 2015? More astonishingly, the government of Canada announced that the figure will be doubled by 2020. However, such a rapidly growing group is experiencing various educational inequalities. While paying 5 times of tuition fee than local students, international students cannot obtain equal access to academic resources. For example, in University of Toronto, Career Center provides job opportunity to students. But most of the jobs are provided to local students ONLY. Moreover, University of Toronto offers massive amount of scholarship each year to reward academic excellence, community involvement and leadership. But if you look closely, most of the scholarship cannot be applied by international students. In fact, the aggregate amount of scholarship that University of Toronto offers to international students is only about 0.5% of the total amount. You, who is reading this, may not be an international student, may not care about scholarship. But inequality is the enemy of all of us! And we cannot stand for discrimination! Now, let’s unite to fight against it!
