Meet our panelist, DR. AMAL MADIBBO!

Dr. Madibbo is a Professor in the Department of Social Justice Education at OISE, University of Toronto, and a Researcher-in-Residence at Université de l’Ontario français. Her scholarship and community engagement theorize the intersectionality of Black Studies and Francophone Studies. She is the author and editor of many article, books and special issues. She is the Recipient of the Canadian Sociological Association Outstanding Contribution to Sociology Award 2025.

Thanking Dr. Nana George J. Sefa Dei for his years of leadership and mentorship!!

Nana George Sefa Dei is a Ghanaian‑born educator, researcher, and writer widely recognized as one of Canada’s leading scholars on race, anti‑racism studies, Black and minority education, African Indigeneity, and anti‑colonial thought. A highly sought‑after academic and community worker, he has delivered invited lectures across Canada, the United States, Europe, and Africa, and currently serves as Professor of Social Justice Education and Director of the Centre for Integrative Anti‑Racism Studies at the Ontario Institute for Studies in Education,

University of Toronto. His distinguished honours include honorary doctorates from the University of South Africa and Algoma University (both 2024), the title of Professor Extraordinarius from UNISA (2012), election as a Fellow of the Royal Society of Canada (2017), the Whitworth Award for Educational Research (2016), the Paulo Freire Social Justice Award (2019), the ONABSE Lifetime Achievement Award (2021), recognition as one of the 100 most influential Black Canadians by Silvertrust Media (2023), the University of Toronto President’s Impact Award (2023), and an Honorary Research Associateship at UNISA’s Centre of Excellence in Disabilities (2023). A prolific scholar with forty‑seven books, more than eighty refereed articles, and seventy‑eight book chapters, he was also installed in 2007 as a traditional chief in Asokore, Koforidua, in the New Juaben Traditional Area of Ghana, where he holds the stool name Nana Adusei Sefa Tweneboah.
