Regis St. Michael's Faculty of Theology at The Collaborative Theology Initiative (CTI)

June 13 to July 11 students Kristine Fernandes, Madeline Surman, and Higor Jesus de Lima represented RSM at The Collaborative Theology Initiative (CTI) in Nairobi, Kenya!

Over the course of four weeks, our students dove deep into the history and charism of the early Jesuits, exploring vital themes like friendship in the Lord and collaboration. Beyond the classroom, CTI offered incredible opportunities to connect with the local community through cultural and pastoral activities.

Week One of Food/Justice, Farming and Ecotheology in the City

What a rich first week of journeying together! Through lectures, conversations, and site visits across Toronto, students enrolled in the two-week “Food/Justice, Farming and Eco-Theology in the City” course explored how food connects questions of justice, ecology, community, and theology. Along the way, we encountered not only inspiring people but also the gardens, farms, and more-than-human communities that sustain urban life.

Many thanks to Hilda O'Connor (St. Basil's Food Ministry), Dr. Konnie Vissers (Rooted: Centre for Theology and Eco-Justice, Guelph), Tom More (Common Table, Church of the Redeemer), and Melodie Ng (Common Table Farm, Flemingdon Park) for sharing their wisdom, experience, and hospitality. Their work offered powerful examples of how questions of food, faith, justice, and ecology come together in practice.

Looking forward to week two!

Another remarkable week in RSM’s Rome summer course, led by Dean Jaroslav Skira. This week’s themes included the Catholic Church’s inter-faith relations with Judaism (with a visit to the Great Synagogue of Rome) and with Islam (with a visit to the Grand Mosque of Rome, pictured here). A side trip also included a visit to the oldest extant basilica in Rome of St. Sabina, the mother church of the Dominican Order of Preachers.
