The body double effect is real. Sometimes the easiest way to start writing is simply seeing someone else already doing it ✍🏼👥
Last fall, 37 graduate students joined the Graduate Write-a-Thon and collectively drafted, revised, and reviewed more than 100 pages in a single day. 📄
Graduate writing may feel like a solo pursuit, but the Write-a-Thon turns it into a shared experience built on accountability, momentum, and mutual support.
As graduate student support consultant Taeja McKoy says: “Sometimes just being in the presence of other students who are working hard can be the encouragement and motivation needed.”
Because thesis writing can be isolating: long hours, blinking cursors, looming deadlines. The Write-a-Thon changes that with structured writing blocks, goal-setting, coffee, and a room (and Zoom) full of peers quietly pushing their work forward together.
📅 Next Graduate Write-a-Thon: March 19
📍 Online + in person at the DCC, 7th floor

“Representing TMU and winning serves as a powerful reminder that our lab work has real implications for patients across Canada,” says TMU Postdoctoral Fellow Dr. Nicholas Simard, who recently won the 5 Minute Research Talks competition . His groundbreaking research uses AI to leverage “cross-talk” between different medical imaging modalities.
Dr. Simard has become the second TMU postdoc in three years to take home first place at the 5MRT competition. Congrats, Nicholas! 🎉
