The collection includes complete translations, scholarly commentaries, annotations, glosses, and indexes for major works such as the Four Books and Five Classics, Historical Records (Shiji), and many other foundational texts.

📣 The University of Toronto Libraries Renews Tibetan Collections Partnership with Columbia University Libraries (2026-2029)
The Cheng Yu Tung East Asian Library is pleased to announce the renewal of the Tibetan Collection Development and Services Agreement between the University of Toronto Libraries (UTL) and Columbia University Libraries (CUL) for a further three-year term (2026-2029), effective July 1, 2026. This international collaboration continues to strengthen Tibetan collection development, library services, and research support, reinforcing both institutions' longstanding commitment to advancing Tibetan Studies in North America.
Established in 2013, this unique partnership celebrated its 10-year milestone in 2023 and continues to support Tibetan collection development and maintenance, research and reference services, acquisitions activities, and original cataloguing of Tibetan-language materials. Through shared expertise and dedicated funding, the collaboration has contributed significantly to the growth, discoverability, and accessibility of Tibetan resources while supporting research, teaching, and scholarship in Tibetan Studies at U of T and beyond.
Today, the collection contains more than 10,000 items, making it one of North America's leading Tibetan research collections. During the first decade of the UTL–CUL partnership alone, the collection nearly tripled in size. The collection now includes books, manuscripts, maps, microforms, musical scores, newspapers, sound recordings, and videos, with particular strengths in Tibetan Buddhism, history, language and literature, medicine, social sciences, politics and government, and art.
The Cheng Yu Tung East Asian Library looks forward to continuing this successful collaboration and further strengthening support for Tibetan Studies research, teaching, and scholarship over the next three years.
