When decriminalization led to more arrests 🤔 🏳️🌈
The 1969 Omnibus Bill supposedly “decriminalized” homosexuality... but only in private spaces. The landmark legislation infamously led to increased policing of public spaces in the 70’s and 80’s, and as Tom Hooper argues, the “recriminalization” of homosexuality in Canada.
Tom Hooper is an assistant professor and historian of Canadian 2SLGBTQIA+ communities in our Department of Equity Studies.
