✨There were some exciting celebrations here at the studio last month!

Congratulations to Bianca, Mikaela, and Gabrielle on their Kiwanis Festival performances in February. Their dedication and love of music shone through, earning them Gold and Platinum placements!

A big thank you to collaborative pianist Judith deHaney for her beautiful artistry and support.

✨ What a fun evening at the studio Winter Recital on December 6th!

🎶 It was wonderful watching everyone share their excitement and joy for music – building confidence and growing through performance. Northlea United Church was beautifully decorated for the holidays, creating a warm and inviting setting for performers and audience alike.

🎂 And of course, no recital is complete without the post-performance reception featuring the biggest star of all – the CAKE!

👏 Congratulation to everyone on all your hard work and lovely performances!

🎹 📸 Special thaks to pianist Christopher Siu Music for so skillfully supporting everyone on stage, and photographer Emily Ding Photography for capturing the evening so beautifully!

It was a joy to support and celebrate one of my students at The Royal Conservatory of Music's 2025 Celebration of Excellence on November 16th.

Aston earned the highest mark among the students in the region of Ontario who took his grade-level practical performance exam in 2024 and was awarded a Regional Gold Medal for his achievement.

As part of his accomplishment, Aston was invited to perform a solo at Mazzoleni Hall in Toronto, joining fellow Gold Medal recipients from Ontario and Québec at the Conservatory’s Celebration of Excellence Recital.

It was a proud moment for everyone in attendance, and truly inspiring to watch so many students share their passion for music. A special thank you to collaborative pianist Judith deHaney for so skillfully supporting Aston on stage, and to the RCM for hosting such a memorable event.

Congratulations to Aston and all the 2024 Gold Medal recipients for their hard work and dedication—I can’t wait to see what music you share with the world next!

🎶 Have you ever wondered how to set up a practice area?

✨ Practicing is important, but having the right space can make a big difference in helping you stay focused and motivated. Over the years, I’ve found a well-set-up practice area has been one of the most beneficial things for my own playing—and for my students too.

If you’re not sure where to begin, here are five tips I like sharing with my students:

1️⃣ Choose a spot that’s dedicated just to practice.

2️⃣ Make sure your practice space is free from distractions.

3️⃣ Gather everything you need before you start practicing.

4️⃣ Keep a mirror nearby for self-checks.

5️⃣ Always have a music stand ready.

🎻 I love hearing about the creative ways my students personalize their practice spaces. Is there something special you like to include in yours? Share your ideas in the comments below! 👇🏼

"I was able to thrive and fall in love with playing all over again, and it was thanks to Carmen's encouragement and evident love for music. She creates an inspiring environment, which allows you to satisfyingly improve and gain confidence in your performance." — M. Shin Binon, student
