Today was what solidarity looks like. ❤️🍎

This morning, members of the Elementary Teachers of Toronto (ETT) joined with our friends from Toronto Education Workers / Local 4400 including caretaking staff, office assistants, and other education workers—to spend the day talking with families in York South–Weston riding.

Alongside the incredible voices of the ETT Choir, we knocked on doors, met parents, shared music, handed out coffee and ice cream, and had hundreds of conversations about the importance of investing in our neighbourhood schools and making housing more affordable.

One thing stood out: many parents had no idea about the ongoing cuts to public education, the provincial takeover of the TDSB, or what these decisions could mean for their children’s schools. They were grateful that educators and education workers took the time to come into the community, answer questions, and listen.

This is what building strong public education looks like. It isn’t just bargaining at the table—it’s showing up in our communities, working together across unions, and having real conversations with the families we serve every day.

A huge thank you to everyone who volunteered their time, shared their talents, and helped make today such a success. Together, we’ll keep building a stronger voice for students, families, and public education.

Our students are the reason. 🍎❤️

School may be out but the numbers are in. Thanks to Premier Ford and Paul Calandra, Ontario's public education funding crisis is only getting worse.

Under provincial supervision, the TDSB is still projecting a $15 million deficit. Doug Ford’s takeover has been a disaster for schools and students. And now...

❌ Spec Ed: $7.3 million less from the province
❌ 84% of schools in disrepair, $2.9 million cut to school facilities fund
❌ Model Schools program cut
❌ TDSB budget projects cuts to almost every spending category; 100s of teachers facing layoffs next year.
❌ 5/7 Outdoor Education centres closed, 72 ESL Instruction cut, 15 Diagnostic Kindergarten classes cut, and larger class sizes

Behind every budget line is a student who loses support, a teacher asked to do more with less, and a school community left wondering what will disappear next.
Even more alarming, this budget provides almost no detail about where many of these cuts are happening. Parents, educators, and communities deserve to know what is going on in their schools and our students deserve better.

It's time to stand up for the schools our students deserve.
