Excited about pushing the boundaries of character animation? Whether you're in the animation field or academic research, get ready for the launch of the M-Body project! Supported by the Nserc Canada federal funding, this project brings together a multidisciplinary team from four leading applied research centers across Canada: SIRT Centre, Centre de développement et de recherche en intelligence numérique - CDRIN, MRC Studio at Durham College and LLio - Laboratoire en innovation ouverte. Our goal is to provide a collaborative, open-source toolkit and software systems for cutting-edge generative character animation, complete with a high-quality, human motion dataset. We recently worked with OYA black arts coalition to deliver some in-depth virtual production and unreal engine sessions!

Participants were able to learn the basics of unreal, scan objects into their scene using photogrammetry, create a 3D environment and act in front of our LED wall to create a character selection mashup!

Thanks to funding from City of Toronto’s xoTO Screen Industry Pathways, Sheridan College’s SIRT is providing industry-leading virtual production training workshops to young Black creatives, as part of the OYA Media Group Emerging Filmmakers Program. These workshops are for motion capture and filmmaking inside Unreal Engine (a 3D creation tool).
