The School of Canadian Contemporary Dance Theatre

The School of Canadian Contemporary Dance Theatre Ms. Lundmark’s 40 years of experience guiding young dancers from first steps to stage premieres makes CCDT one of Canada’s leading training centres.

The School offers a wide range of programs for all ages, meeting the interests and abilities of the beginner to the professional dancers. The School’s program includes both Royal Academy of Dance Ballet and Limon Modern dance, providing the dancer with the opportunity to pursue a balanced training program similar to that of the Canadian Contemporary Dance Theatre performing company. Royal Academy of Dance ballet exams are offered to students enrolled in a minimum of two classes per week starting at Grade I Level. Students seeking a more recreational dance experience can select from a wide range of dance styles including Jazz & Musical Theatre, Hip Hop, Tap, Teen Ballet, Grade I, II and III recreational Ballet and Contemporary classes, all of which culminate in our year-end Showcase, a theatre performance presented to family and friends. Children 2–3 years of age, accompanied by their parents, will explore the natural joy of movement and musicality in our Music and Movement class. Our Creative Movement program is offered to students 3–7 years of age and continues to nurture the art of movement through a blend of spontaneity and technique. Classes are offered on a 36-week term, from September to June. New registrations are accepted in May and continue throughout the fall and winter based on class availability.

Introducing our Creative Movement and Begineer Ballet & Modern Teacher, Abigail Hanson (abigail)! 🥳

Abby Hanson (she/her) is a Toronto, ON based dance teacher, choreographer, and performer. She is a 2023 graduate of Dance Arts Institute Canada (formerly The School of Toronto Dance Theatre). Following graduation she took on an Administrative Internship role with Dance Arts Institute (through Canada Summer Jobs). This role kickstarted her professional career in business and arts administration which she has built alongside her teaching and performing roles.

She has continued her training by taking classes and partaking in workshops including the Radical System Art summer intensive in Vancouver, and b12 workshop festival in Berlin. Her improvisational and choreographic practice is greatly influenced by her modern dance training and incorporates the use of floorwork, spiral, extension and momentum. She has completed projects performed in both the Toronto and Edinburgh Fringe Festival, music video shoots, and has danced with Wind in the Leaves collective. She has performed for fashion events, poetry readings, sports events, and art installations. Abby currently teaches ballet, modern and contemporary to young dancers and choreographs for competitions and self-produced work.

Introducing our Music & Movement and Musical Theatre teacher, Sophia Mackey (Sophia Mackey)! 🥳

Sophia has always cherished the opportunity to explore the many facets of the performing arts and feels incredibly grateful to build a career that brings together her love of music, dance, teaching, and theatre. She recently graduated with distinction as Valedictorian from Canada’s National Ballet School’s Teacher Training Program, where she was honoured to receive the Carole Chadwick and Sylvia McFee Awards for teaching. She is now delighted to work full-time at NBS, at her home studio, the Lindsay Dance Studio, and the School of Canadian Contemporary Dance Theatre.

Sophia holds Registered Teaching Status with the Royal Academy of Dance, is an Associate of the Royal Academy of Dance, and is an Associate of the Imperial Society of Teachers of Dancing.

Introducing our new Jazz Teacher, Holly Gill ()! 🥳

Holly Gill is a dynamic performer, instructor, and choreographer based in Toronto, originally from Oxford, Nova Scotia. A proud graduate of George Brown Dance, Holly is trained in a wide range of styles including Jazz, Jazz-Funk, Contemporary, Modern, Heels, and Ballet.

Her performance credits include dancing on the Rogers Centre stage for international superstar Diljit Dosanjh, and as a member of the CFL’s Toronto Argonauts A-Team and the NLL’s Toronto Rockdance team.

Holly has worked with renowned choreographers such as Leon Blackwood, Chris Clarke, Christopher Knowles, and Hannah Kiel. With a strong presence in both Toronto and the East Coast dance communities, she is known for her energetic teaching style and genuine passion for mentoring the next generation of dancers.

A true artist and educator, Holly is dedicated to sharing her knowledge, creativity, and love of dance in every space she enters.

Introducing our new Hip Hop Teacher, Sampada Shah ()! 🥳

Sampada Shah is a Toronto-based dancer, movement lover, and instructor with over 12 years of training and performance experience across Hip-Hop, Bollywood, fusion, lyrical, and commercial styles.

Raised in India, Sampada’s love for Bollywood and her South Asian heritage sparked her passion for movement and led her to explore Hip-Hop and street styles. Since moving to Canada, she has continued to grow as a performer, teacher, and leader in the dance community, with experience performing on major stages, participating in commercial projects, and working on Tour with South Asian artists.

Sampada has experience teaching beginners and mentoring young dancers ages 6–16. She brings a patient, encouraging, and structured approach to her classes, helping students build both their skills and confidence.

Above all, she believes dance should be a space where students feel safe, welcomed, and free to express themselves.

Alongside our renowned ballet classes, our Modern classes offer exceptional training in two distinct and progressive approaches to contemporary dance: Limón Modern and Rambert Grades.

Rooted in the movement principles of modern dance pioneer José Limón, our Limón Modern classes have a liberating, playful quality that supports young dancers’ development and provides a strong complement to classical forms.

Rambert Grades is a progressive contemporary dance programme focused on technique, creativity and performance, giving students the opportunity to develop core contemporary dance skills and participate in exams to mark their progress.

And what makes the experience even more special? Live musicians accompany all of our Modern classes, inspiring and engaging dancers through a well-rounded experience of exceptional training.

Have you registered for our Jazz and Hip Hop classes yet?

Our Jazz and Hip Hop classes build technique, musicality, coordination and confidence… while keeping dance fun.

Jazz is a great way to challenge both body and mind. Classes combine cardio, dynamic stretching and strengthening with focused jazz technique, vocabulary and travelling combinations, helping dancers build strength, skill and confidence.

Our Hip Hop classes bring energy, rhythm and individuality into the studio. Dancers develop coordination, stamina and confidence through age-appropriate combinations and choreography set to the empowering beats of hip hop.

With experienced teachers and a supportive environment, SCCDT gives dancers the space to challenge themselves, build their skills and find their own style.
