This upcoming Wednesday, September 30th is the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation.

As we reflect during this ongoing journey of reconciliation and healing, we honour the survivors of the residential school system, and remember the children who never returned home.

To mark this day of recognition, also known as Orange Shirt Day, we encourage all students to please wear an orange shirt this Wednesday, to remember those who were lost and and as a pledge to continue to learn and do better.

Tomorrow, we invite all current SPX parents and caregivers to join us for our school Mass at St. Pius X Parish (Bloor St.) to celebrate and welcome our students to a brand new school year, and prepare for the coming season of Thanksgiving.

Dear parents and caregivers,

The SPX Catholic School Parent Council (CSPC) is once again running our Activity Fee Campaign. The activity fee is the single biggest fundraiser the CSPC does every year. Donations can be made via Schoolcash Online for any amount your budget allows, though we are suggesting $65 per student.

Help us meet a goal of $15,000 by Wednesday, September 30th so we can plan for the 2026-2027 school year.

🔗📧 Please check your September 18th CSPC email for the donation link.

An immediate tax receipt will be issued to your email for use at tax time. All money raised through this campaign is directly invested into the school.

As a reminder, last year our fundraising helped pay for:

🔹 Junglesport, Blank Canvases, Young Engineers High Park, and Pawsitively Pets

🔹 School-wide workshops for Black History Month and Indigenous Heritage Month

🔹 Individual classroom workshops and field trips to support grade-specific curriculum

🔹 Teacher stipends for classroom supplies

🔹 Gym and music equipment

🔹 Recess kits/supplies

🔹 Classroom Christmas crafts

🔹 Agendas and technology

➡️ ICYMI: The Preparation Class Schedules for children receiving Confirmation and First Holy Communion are available on the St. Pius X Catholic Parish website.

If you would like to register your child for First Communion and/or Confirmation, please contact the parish directly to book your meeting with Fr. Mani.

The parish is accepting applications until Friday, October 9th. Confirmation classes are scheduled to begin on Saturday, October 17th.

🎼 The St. Pius X Catholic Parish's 75th Anniversary Summer Music Series will be wrapping up with a final Closing Concert this Friday, September 25th at 7:30 PM in the church.

Our SPX family, community, and parishioners are welcome and invited to attend this special evening, with musical selections performed by our parish Music Director (Adrian Autencio) and cantors (Alejandra Ballon, Iris Rodrigues, Carina Sandejas), plus guest accompanist and additional guest singers.

Admission is free, however donations are always welcome. See you all there! 🎵🎶

🤝 Parent engagement is an important element of our children's education. To that end, participation in our Catholic School Parent Council (CSPC) is always welcome.

Please check your School Messenger email (Sept. 15th) from our principal, Mr. Schultz, for further information about the CSPC (background, elections, nomination process, etc.).

Our Parent Council Annual General Meeting (AGM) will be held at the school on Wednesday, September 30th at 6:00 PM in the gymnasium.

Our Terry Fox Run is right around the corner, coming up this Wednesday, September 23rd!

A few notes for all parents and caregivers as we prepare for the big day:

📝 START OF YEAR FORMS (SCO)

We have had 85% of families complete the Start of Year forms in SchoolCash Online. The Terry Fox Run is classified as a local excursion, since students are going offsite (except kinder). We need all families to please complete the Start of Year forms as soon as possible.

🙌 VOLUNTEERS

We are looking to get a few volunteers to supervise the Run this Wednesday, beginning at 9:00 AM. Parents on bikes are welcome, too.
