The Hart House Debating Club

As HHDC Election results are published, we would like to extend congratulations to the new executive team! We are excited to see the amazing work they will accomplish in the coming months. More importantly, we wanted to thank everyone who ran for executive positions—your ideas, visions, and passion for the club have not gone unnoticed, and they inspire in us confidence that the club will be in good hands no matter what!

To the outgoing executive—thank you for all your work throughout the course of the year. Your time and effort made it possible to extend so many opportunities and events to as many members as possible, and we are truly grateful to have had you nurture the club.

Heading into exam season, we wish everyone all the best on exams and upcoming tournaments! Stay tuned for a semester recap to come :)

Colgate may be approved by 9 out of 10 dentists, but Hart House is undeniably 10/10 because we’re continuing to smash it at this semester’s tournaments!

Our debaters sparkled at Colgate–look to Emily Shi and Tanvir Shahriar, who broke 6th and were open semifinalists! They also picked up impressive speaks, with Emily placing 15th open speaker and Tanvir placing 16th!

Our adjudicators did not fail to amaze either ☺️ Congratulations to Anette Xia, Elgin Lin, and Latisha, who all broke! Their accomplishments don’t just end there–hats off to Elgin for chairing open semifinals and Latisha & Anette for chairing and paneling novice finals, respectively! We’re proud of you for representing Hart House! ✨

Congratulations again to everyone who attended the Colgate Open! We love to see you scrub the competition clean :)

We don’t need to tell you whose house it is, ‘cause you already know Hart House kicked it out of the park at CP Nats with the LARGEST BREAKING CONTINGENT at the tournament!!! Our debaters never let us down and they continue to slay 🤩

Many congratulations are in order to our stellar debaters: Brandon Zhang and Cameron Miranda-Radbord, who broke 4th and made it to open semi-finals, Caitlin Mah and Max Williams, who broke 8th and made it to open quarter-finals, and Julia Gilley and Larry Li, who breaking 3rd and making it to Novice finals! Kudos also to Cameron Miranda-Radbord for placing 3rd open Speaker, Brandon Zhang in 4th, Max Williams as 4th Novice Speaker, Caitlin Mah in 8th, Julia Gilley in 11th, and Larry Li in 14th.

Our accomplished contingent also includes countless amazing adjudicators! Let’s hear it for Eamon Roach, McEwen Reil, William Zhang, and Nikta Ghozati, who all broke!! Special shoutouts go to Eamon for paneling Grand Finals, Valerie for tabbing, and Nikta for serving as Equity Officer 🥰

The Leger Cup was appropriately named, because Hart House sure made light work out of the tournament! We’re proud of our debaters for always repping us with glam and splendor ⚡

Congratulations to Julia Gilley and Larry Li for breaking fourth and making it to the open semi-finals!! This power duo also tied for 8th open speaker and 5th novice speaker–crushing it both in speaks and breaks! Of course, debate would not be what it is without talented judges, so a huge shoutout is in order for Jack Zhu and Isabelle Feng for judging the outrounds!

Three tournaments into the year, Hart House is still going strong with amazing results from NORAMs!

Congratulations to Jonah Rosen and Vivek Sapru for breaking fifth and WINNING Novice Finals!! They did an outstanding job representing Hart House not only in the APDA/CUSID circuit, but also now the NORAMs Wikipedia page 🤩🤩

Additionally, congratulations go to Emily Shi and Hargun Rekhi for breaking as adjudicators and Nikta Ghozati for chairing Octofinals! A special shoutout is also in order for Vidit Desai and Valerie Pang, who CA’d and tabbed at NORAMs!

Hart House has done it again at Seagrams IV!!

Congratulations to David Zu and Brandon Zhang for absolutely crushing it at the first CP tournament of the year–breaking second, making it to Grand Finals, and becoming the 2023 CHAMPIONS!! They also brought home some top speaks with David placing 3rd open/1st Novice Speaker, and Brandon placing 4th open/2nd! Kudos to them for making this the FIFTH year in a row Hart House has won Seagrams IV 🔥🔥

Hello everyone! We’re back with some very exciting news about WUDC results!

A massive congratulations goes to Vidit Desai and Adam Banihani for breaking 36th and making it to Octofinals on the world stage!! Not only is Hart House A one of the top teams in the world (😍), they also achieved stellar speaks with Vidit placing 52nd and Adam placing 78th out of 512 speakers in total!!

Of course, Worlds would not be complete without the amazing judge breaks, too! Congrats to Arpi Yang, Latisha, and Serena Yuan for breaking as adjudicators, and a special shoutout to Latisha for judging Octofinals!

We are so incredibly proud of everyone who represented Hart House at WUDC this year, and we know this trip was not made in (sp)vain ♥️
