Upper Beach Speech won their division tournament! Loved sponsoring this Beaches Soccer Team! We havenโ€™t posted in a while, but back-to-school brings new beginnings, and in this case, a few openings for speech therapy. [email protected] for more info!

Ten little monkeys ๐Ÿ’ ๐Ÿ’ ๐Ÿ’ ๐Ÿ›Œ ! So many great target words in this rhyming story, as well as book and activity options! Today was my first time using an and it was a lot of fun. Great for kids working on one to one correspondence in counting or kids who need a tactile component to keep them engaged in books. This book is great for working on jaw control (POP) or lip rounding (POKE plus NO MORE) in addition to final consonants (bed, head). I created this little monkey bowling game ๐Ÿต ๐ŸŽณ using pictures from and clothespins from .canada. Again, lots of target options when rolling the ball and knocking monkeys (Fall down, off the bed, etc.).

Another company I LOVE is ! They have board games appropriate for as young as 2 years, they are really fun to play and excellent for targeting SLP goals like negation, early literacy, vocabulary, asking questions and describing. Not only that, the website is full of great activity sheets, crafts, colouring pages and matching activities that correspond to the games (an SLP homework dream ๐Ÿ˜‚). Iโ€™ll be using this dollhouse matching activity to elicit โ€œI see...โ€ sentences and prepositions (e.g., The teddy is ON the bed). Scroll through to see some of my favourite Orchard Toys games!

As we settle into winter mode I'm reminded of the classic book "The Snowman" which is .... wordless! And yes - SLPs love wordless books! Many parents and kids feel tied to the words on the page when reading, so when the words aren't there there's a certain freedom. You can tailor you sentence length and vocabulary to your child's level, and your child can join in with their own ideas and descriptions. These books include rich illustrations and your child might even comment on something you never noticed!

Good Night Gorilla has some words - but most of the story exists outside the limited dialogue. I would recommend it for toddler to kindergarten age.

The Snowman - Toddler to Grade 4 +

Rosie's Glasses - Kindergarten to Grade 4 +

Flashlight - Preschool to Grade 4+

Would love your feedback if you try these books out!

'Tis the season for boxes from online shopping ... This week I re-purposed one of my boxes into a garage for toy cars and it was a hit with my clients. It took less than 10 minutes to make! (I didn't cover it in wrapping paper yet). This video shows the steps involved - and another easy craft for literacy practice!

TFW your activities are (mostly) organized on your shelves ๐Ÿ™‚!!! I use 2 Billy Bookcases for storage and handmade curtains on spring-loaded rods to hide my supplies during sessions. Even the most curious kids quickly learn that our activities for the day are on the small blue shelves (on rollers). Kids get to pick the order of the activities (and usually I pick one or two extra activities we wonโ€™t get to so thereโ€™s more choice) but Iโ€™m the one who pre-selects from behind the curtains. Usually a book or sound-drill activity is already on the table so I can get us primed to target goals.

Do you see a favourite activity? Any favourites Iโ€™m missing?
