Nearly 400 graduating high school students from across Scarborough joined us for The Walk With Excellence East last month, a celebration of achievement, community, and future possibilities.
Hosted in partnership with Blackhurst Cultural Centre, the Toronto District School Board, and the Centre of Excellence for Black Student Achievement, the event brought together students, families, educators, and community members to celebrate graduates and their next steps.
The day also marked the launch of the UTSC Black Flourishing Award, offering two renewable scholarships of $2,000 per year (up to $10,000 per student) to support Black student success at U of T Scarborough. Applications are open until July 17, 2026. Students may learn more and apply here: https://edio.utsc.utoronto.ca/abr-biac/walk-with-excellence

Bavan has had so many meaningful moments throughout his undergraduate journey at U of T Scarborough. As he prepares to walk across the stage, he looks back on those times that shaped who he is today.
Here are some of his best tips for success:
๐ Take advantage of U of T Scarborough research opportunities
๐ Get involved in clubs and organizations
๐ You donโt need to have everything figured out; put yourself out there
๐ Donโt be afraid to reach out. These moments often lead to the most meaningful connections.
๐ Donโt overcommit; align your time with purpose
๐ Show up with care (and take care of yourself!)
๐ Make the most of experiential learning opportunities
