U of T Dept. of Otolaryngology - Head & Neck Surgery Welcome to the Department of Otolaryngology-Head & Neck Surgery at the University of Toronto.

We prepare head and neck surgical leaders, contribute to our communities and improve the health of individuals and populations locally and globally through discovery, application and communication of knowledge. We are the largest department in Canada and ranked as one of the top departments in North America. The University of Toronto consistently ranks in the top 20 universities in the world. We are known for excellence in all sub specialties of Otolaryngology - Head & Neck Surgery and have a long track record of excellence in basic and clinical science research. We have a robust training program that produces very high quality community and academic otolaryngologists. At most times, usually 50% or more of the chairs in Canada are former residents or fellows of our program. We also have graduated exceptional community otolaryngologists who have gone on to significant leadership positions locally and nationally. Our research excellence is well known throughout the world and documented in our annual reports.

Please join us in congratulating Dr. Artur Gevorgyan who has been appointed the Chief and Medical Director of Surgery at Lakeridge Health!

Since joining Lakeridge Health, Dr. Grevorgyan has been a highly respected member of the Department of Surgery, providing specialized, patient-centred care to adult and paediatric patients across Durham Region. As Division Head of Otolaryngology—Head and Neck Surgery, he has strengthened access to surgical services and advanced clinical excellence by building a multidisciplinary team of sub-specialized otolaryngologists. He has also demonstrated strong leadership through championing safe access to airway procedures during the pandemic, supporting the implementation of EPIC within the Department of Surgery, and developing cross-site collaborative CME initiatives.

This is a well-deserved distinction, which speaks to his impact and strong leadership.

🎉Please join us in congratulating Dr. Eric Monteiro for his new appointment as Quality Lead for the Surgical Oncology Program, effective August 17, 2026!

Dr. Monteiro brings extensive clinical and academic expertise, along with more than a decade of experience in quality improvement and patient safety. He has also contributed to provincial quality initiatives with Ontario Health and to the development of surgical quality indicators and cancer care standards.

This appointment reflects his strong commitment to quality improvement, patient safety, and excellence in patient care.
