Meet our second keynote speaker in the upcoming 13th Annual Glendon Graduate Student Conference in Translation Studies.
Anthi Wiedenmayer is an associated professor and since 2020 Head of the School of German Language and Literature at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, where she teaches Translation, Conference Interpreting and Subtitling. She has a Diploma in Translation for German, English, and Spanish from the Department of Applied Linguistics, Johannes Gutenberg University of Mainz, Germersheim (Germany) and a Ph.D. from the School of German Language and Literature, University of Athens, in the translation of poetry. She has worked as a translator and interpreter in Greece and Germany and has been Chairman of the Panhellenic Association of Translators (PEM, Member of FIT) from 2002-2006 and is its Honorary Member since 2012. She is a Founding Member of the Hellenic Society for Translation Studies.
Among her latest research projects are “Portraits of Translators” with interviews with Greek translators of foreign literature, “Übersetzerporträts – Ein soziologischer Ansatz” with interviews with translators of Greek literature in Germany (Centrum Modernes Griechenland, Free University Berlin). In the field of Interpreting Studies the newly Erasmus+ project DIALOGOS about Communication in Public Service Interpreting and Translating with languages of lesser diffusion, the EC-funded project producing interactive pedagogical tools for trainers and students of conference interpreting ORCIT (Online Resources for Conference Interpreter Training) and the EC-funded project TRAMIG about training migrants to become community interpreters and intercultural mediators. She is the supervisor of research about the translation of foreign literature in Greece between 2010-2020 carried out with students of the MA “Intercultural Communication” at Aristotle University of Thessaloniki.

Meet our first keynote speaker in the upcoming 13th Annual Glendon Graduate Student Conference in Translation Studies.
Dr. Janis Cole is a feminist, ASL/ English translator; educator, researcher, consultant and community forum leader/ facilitator. She holds a Ph.D. in Interpretation from Gallaudet University, an M.Ed., Deaf- ASL Studies/ Deaf Education from Boston University, and a B.S. in Social Work from the Rochester Institute of Technology. As CEO of LesDeux2, she does consultation work on bilingual literacy and translation. Currently, she does interpreting and translation work in private practice and has served in multiple roles at the local, regional, national, and international levels. She has been involved with the Integrated Model of Interpreting (IMI) as a practitioner in the practice of reflective dialogue and has done ground-breaking work regarding perceptions and practices in ASL and English literacy instruction, including participation in The Magical Literacy Camp (1997) which led her focus on translation studies and identity. For over 36 years, Dr. Cole has taught at Boston University, Northeastern University and Gallaudet University, and presented on various topics related to interpreting, translation and Deaf/ Cultural studies courses. She has published, among other chapters and articles, “Deaf Translation: Socio-Cultural Perspective” (with Eileen Forestal) International Journal of Interpreter Education, 2018, and “Deaf translators: what are they thinking?, Journal of Interpretation Vol. 28: 1, 3.

We are excited to announce that registration for the upcoming 13th Annual Glendon Graduate Student Conference in Translation Studies is now open! The conference is scheduled to take place on April 14th and April 15th at York University, Glendon Campus. This event promises to be a great opportunity for translators and translation students and faculty to network and share knowledge with peers.
The theme for this year's conference is "Translation and Unheard Voices”. We have lined up an excellent program with student presentations and two keynote speakers! Dr. Janis Cole, from Gallaudet University, and Dr. Anthi Wiedenmayer, from Aristotle University of Thessaloniki.
You may attend in person or online. For either choice, we encourage you to register as soon as possible to secure your place at the conference.
