Description:
This is a great professional development opportunity for candidates who wish to gain experience teaching ESL in South Korea. You will have the opportunity to use your expertise to plan lessons from the resources provided by HUFS. HUFS will provide a two-week plan that includes a class schedule with various activities including preparing for camp performance, reading hours, games, etc. Your classroom is equip with a computer, projector, and white/blackboards. You will have the opportunity to work with a great team of teachers so you can share ideas and resources. You will also have a Teaching Assistant (TA) who will assist you in the classroom and Program Assistants (PAs) who will help with the operations of the camp. Outside of the workplace, you will have the opportunity to explore the city with your colleagues.
Compensation and Benefits:
Compensation: 600,000 won (approx. $695 CAD) at the end of your contract.
Meal allowance benefits: The university will provide teachers with a total of 100,000 won meal allowance. Lunch is provided during the day.
Accommodations: Off campus hotel - Teachers will be living at a nearby hotel that is about a 10-minute taxi/bus ride. Teachers will receive 100,000 won for transportation for the entire duration of the contract.
Flight Benefits: Round trip flight YYZ to ICN. As a benefit, we allow teachers to return back to Canada at a later date from ICN. Details discussed at the interview stage.
Qualifications:
• Preference to candidates with Bachelors of Bachelors of Education - Ontario Certified Teacher (OCT), district school board teacher, and teaching ESL experience is an asset;
• Demonstrate strong interest in working in another country – adaptability, flexibility, resiliency is important
• Interested in working with children of all ages (10 – 15 primarily)
• Ability to follow a schedule and submit lesson plans - textbook, camp performance, reading, games, other activities etc.
• Successfully pass and obtain a criminal background check and provide supporting documentation (i.e. original bachelors degree, official sealed transcripts) at the Korean Consulate for work visa application – All candidates are responsible for submitting their own visa applications and paying all visa fees. The university will provide additional supporting documents - See C4 Short Term Employment Visa for details.
• Ability to deposit $500 for airfare upon offer of employment (returned by contract end date)
• Due to the work visa process and flight arrangements, only Canadian passport holders living in Ontario will be considered.
*Note: The purpose of the flight deposit is to cover candidates’ flight cancellation fees if they do not proceed with the contract after the flight is purchased.
