Paprika, Pálinka, and Politics: Variations on Themes in Hungarian Studies - Hungarian Studies Conference held at the Munk School on October 16, 2015.
The Hungarian Studies program at the University of Toronto is proud to announce the first annual conference in association with the Centre for European, Russian, and Eurasian Studies (CERES) at the Munk School of Global Affairs on October 16, 2015. We invite undergraduate and graduate students from any academic discipline to participate by submitting paper proposals or by attending the conference.

-- the who's who of the . Joaquin Phoenix (b. 1974, Puerto Rico) is Hungarian! Phoenix's mother, Arlyn Sharon Dunetz (b.1944), and family traces their ancestry back to and . Cult history and nature-inspired names aside, Phoenix is best know for his roles in "Walk the Line" (dir. Mangold, 2005), "Gladiator" (dir. Scott, 2000), and most recently "Her" (dir. Jonze, 2013). Phoenix won a Grammy Award and the Critics' Choice Movie Award for his stellar performances.

Still continuing this... -- the who's who of the . Adrien Brody (b. 1973, ) is Hungarian! Brody's photographer mother, Sylvia Plachy, (b. 1943) was born in Budapest. Brody is an award-winning actor, director, and producer. He is most well-known for his -winning role in "The Pianist" (dir. Polansk, 2002). This talent actor has won numerous awards, including: the French César Award, National Society of Film Critics Award, and the Boston Society of Film Critics Award.
The conference is over now and after a bit of a much needed break, we will start planning the 2016 event! Check back here for details!
