give up = to quit trying. Works alone (“Don’t give up”) or with an object you can split (“I gave it up” / “I gave up sugar”).

figure out = to solve or finally understand something. Splittable: “figure it out,” never “figure out it.”

look forward to = to feel excited about something coming. Three parts, never split, and the next verb takes -ing: “I look forward to seeing you.”

run into = to meet someone by accident. Not literal running: “I ran into my old teacher at the market.”

put off = to postpone. Splittable, and often followed by -ing: “Stop putting off studying.”

come up with = to invent or think of an idea. Never split: “She came up with a plan.”
