Today and every day, The York School community recognizes the traditional stewards who have cared for this land for generations. In recognition of National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, our students wore orange shirts today to raise awareness about the intergenerational impacts of residential schools and to affirm that .
Throughout the week, our school engaged in meaningful learning across all divisions:
Middle & Senior School: Students took an active role in learning about Truth and Reconciliation during their assembly, alongside guest speakers Greg Hopf, co-owner of Moccasin Trails, and Chief Frank Antoine, leader of Bonaparte First Nation. Greg and Frank spoke about the vital role relationships play when reflecting on the Calls to Action. Both have partnered with The York School for the past five years, welcoming our students into their community during Challenge Week and helping deepen our learning through connection and shared experiences.
Junior School: Yesterday, our youngest learners welcomed Mohawk educator and community leader Ellie Joseph from Six Nations of the Grand River, who shared stories, cultural teachings and insights on the Two Row Wampum to deepen our collective understanding of Indigenous history.
