2026 ASPIRE ARTS FEST RECAP 🎥 👀

"To everyone who attended the very first Aspire Arts Festival—thank you for believing in this vision‼️

You helped create more than a festival; you helped start a tradition.

This past July we witnessed strangers become friends, young artists express themselves, families celebrate together, and a community come alive through music, creativity, and culture.

This was only the beginning 📈 🚀

TAKE ME BACK TUESDAY ✨️💛

Reminiscing on our end of year event at Runnymede CI for our "Power of You" event which saw youth involved in a co created music / art exhibit amd interactive activation which centered youth to express themselves.

Students came into the library and shared stories, their dreams and moving "I AM" statements

This immersive experience was an opportunity for young people to feel seen, valued and heard.

Music is the medicine 💊

THE POWER OF YOU 🫶🏾✨️💯

A celebration of identity, leadership, voice and possibility

"The Power of You" was an immersive experience that helped youth reflect on who they are, where they come from and who they are becoming.

A huge team effort saw our boys guide their peers through an immersive & interactive workshop and art exhibit activation.

Student leaders also shared their thoughts, wrote reflections on post it notes and also joined our photobooth so we could capture their smiles

This past year saw us work with a group of boys and explore a variety of topics from;

▫️Self advocacy
▫️Exploring masculinity
▫️Media literacy
▫️Financial literacy
▫️Coping with stress
▫️Finding your voice

These topics just scratched the surface

Thanks to the Runnymede CI staffman for program support
📸 + 🎥 and of course our participants who trusted us to guide them and their incredible energy and input

It's amazing what can happen when youth feel seen, valued and heard

POV: STUDENTS TRYING TO MIX ‼️

Here is the exact blending technique we teach to make your transitions sound perfectly blended.

Looping a track and then dropping the same beat onto itself is an easy way to learn to blend tracks together

Learning to DJ happens in many small steps and part of the process is mastering timing and effectively dropping tracks to begin the blending process.

Look at the smiles
Look at the confidence building
See how the arts connect young people ✨️

Summer DJ sessions starting soon

Stay tuned for details

MAKING CONNECTS 🪘

Next to your heartbeat the drum is one of the first sounds most humans have heard

Our drumming program is an amazing way to engage young pelple and give them confidence, understand rhythm and express themselves through sound

Check out this throwback video 🎥 from our Boys group finale as we performed in Durham Black Boys Conference.

The most amazing thing is at the start of this program when we would finish the boys would leave the drum and run off. On this day I asked each participant to grab their drum and bring it to the car.

I remember circling this loading area to see 15 drums on their own BUT thats not what happened at all. When I pulled up each boy had the drum in their hand and gave it to me to load into the car. This showed me that the respect, connection and truly understanding how the drum was sacred was understood.
