Marie Daoust O'Reilly, known to all as Mary, was the crossing guard at the corner of Humbercrest Blvd and Baby Point Rd for 25 years before her retirement in 2020. It is with heavy hearts that we share the sad news of Marie's passing on November 26, 2021. Through all kinds of weather, Marie could be counted on to safely cross children, parents and caregivers, probably a hundred or more a day, at her busy intersection. At Christmas, Marie would have her husband, David, dress up as Santa and hand out candy canes to all of the kids. It was a beloved tradition on the last day of school before the winter break. Marie took great pride in her work. She knew so many people and always had a kind word for everyone. She loved the kids and everyone loved her in return. She will be dearly missed!

It is with great sadness that we share the passing of Humbercrest PS alumnus, Norman Baker. Mr. Baker was a special guest at our Centennial celebration, being interviewed by Mary Ito and lending his WWII treasures for our displays. He also participated in our Remembrance Day Ceremonies and visited the Grade 5 classes to tell them about his war experiences. He was a very special man and we will miss him!

Once again, the students and staff at Humbercrest PS put on a very moving Remembrance Day ceremony including chamber strings, a choir, poems and family memories.

If you are or know a former Humbercrest student and veteran, and wish to share your memories, please message us. We hope to compile these in an album for future generations.
