HELPING NEWCOMER YOUTH STEP INTO HIGH SCHOOL WITH CONFIDENCE
Throwback to 2015.
In partnership with North York Community House (NYCH online), we delivered an anti-bullying workshop for newcomer youth as they prepared to enter high school—using principles from Filipino Martial Arts (FMA) to build confidence, personal safety, and self-advocacy.
The workshop focused on:
• Building confidence and self-awareness in a new school environment
• Developing practical boundary-setting, communication, and anti-bullying skills
• Strengthening belonging, community, and peer support for youth new to Canada
• Introducing accessible fundamentals of Filipino Martial Arts and self-defense
The goal was simple: help young people feel more confident, prepared, and supported as they navigated an important transition in their lives.
Nearly a decade later, this work continues to shape what we do.
Today, we’re expanding this approach through Empowerment Self-Defense (ESD)—bringing together awareness, prevention, boundary-setting, communication, de-escalation, and practical self-protection skills to help participants build confidence and make informed decisions about their personal safety.
We’re currently partnering with schools, community organizations, settlement agencies, and youth-serving programs to deliver inclusive, practical, and empowering workshops for diverse communities.
If your organization is looking to support young people with confidence, personal safety, self-advocacy, and resilience, we’d welcome the opportunity to connect.
