Black History Month is one of the best times of the year to deliver positive, lasting messages to the Black community. We did it with our LEGACY poster and we're doing it again!

That's why we're launching LEGACY: Careers That Change Communities (CTCC) during Black History Month 2027.

This page is a preview of our Investing & Asset Management edition, designed to introduce Black youth and families to financial literacy, investing, and careers that build stronger communities.

Too often, we're forced to react to racism after the damage has been done. CTCC takes a different approach by investing in knowledge, confidence, and opportunity before barriers become limitations.

Imagine banks, universities, colleges, schools, and community organizations across Canada sharing the same educational resource during Black History Month—amplifying one another's efforts and reaching thousands of families with one coordinated message.

🚀 **Join a National Movement to Inspire the Next Generation of Black Professionals**

What if, during Black History Month 2027, thousands of educators, parents, professionals, community organizations, faith groups, businesses, and schools across Canada shared **the same educational resource** to inspire Black youth to pursue higher education and meaningful careers?

That's the vision behind Careers That Change Communities (CTCC).

The inaugural edition will introduce Black youth to several exciting careers, while helping parents, families, and community members better understand the educational pathways required to achieve them. Future editions will continue to expand into additional professions and issues that are important to our communities.

Today, we're inviting you to become part of this growing national movement.

What if one educational resource could inspire a career... while helping solve a community challenge? That is the vision behind Careers That Change Communities (CTCC).

Too often, we teach careers and community issues separately.
CTCC brings them together. Imagine learning about becoming a...
🧠 Therapist while understanding generational trauma and mental wellness.
⚖️ Lawyer while learning about legal rights, discrimination, and access to justice.
💻 Technology professional while exploring the digital divide and innovation.
🏗️ Engineer while solving real-world problems that affect our communities.
🏥 Healthcare professional while learning about health equity and prevention.

Each booklet introduces young people to meaningful career pathways while helping them understand the challenges those professions are working to address. The resources are designed for youth and also provide practical information for parents and adults, creating pathways into careers for entire families.

This isn't just about asking young people: "What do you want to be when you grow up?"

It's about asking: "How will you help change your community with the knowledge you obtain further in life?"

For more than 30 years, our educational resources have inspired students across Canada. CTCC is the next step—building a lasting, nationwide pipeline into careers through culturally relevant, hands-on learning that connects education → community issues → careers → action.

Because when young people understand both the profession and the problem it helps solve, careers become more than jobs.

They become a purpose.

What if the superhero fighting anxiety wasn't just a superhero?

By day, she's Dr. Amani

By night, she's Nova – The Mind Guardian.

Every day, therapists quietly help people fight battles that most of us never see.

They help children understand overwhelming emotions.
They help families heal.
They help people find hope when life feels impossible.

To many of us, that sounds an awful lot like a superhero.

This image is part of "Careers That Change Communities (CTCC)"—a national initiative using engaging superheroes and activities to introduce Black youth to careers that make a real difference in their communities. Through these stories, we want young people to see that some of the greatest heroes don't wear capes every day—they wear lab coats, carry notebooks, listen with compassion, and change lives.

When a child looks at Nova, I hope they don't just see a superhero.

I hope they think:

"Maybe I could become someone who helps people heal too."**

We're now looking for **Black therapists from across Canada** to help bring this vision to life by participating in the Mental Health edition of CTCC. Together, we can inspire the next generation while connecting families to culturally relevant mental health resources.

Mental Health edition of Careers That Change Communities (CTCC)

For over 33 years, our LEGACY Poster has been a central part of Black History Month celebrations in schools and communities across Canada.

For 2027, we're adding Careers That Change Communities (CTCC) to that legacy by creating a national mental health resource featuring Black mental health professionals and organizations from across Canada.

The Mental Health edition of CTCC will:

🧠 Normalize conversations around mental health in the Black community.

👩🏾‍⚕️ Introduce Black youth to careers in psychology, counselling, psychotherapy, psychiatry, and social work.

🤝 Connect families with culturally relevant professionals and organizations when support is needed.

Most importantly, this initiative is built around a simple idea and a simple plan:
Working together.

Imagine the impact of one educational resource being shared simultaneously by 50 therapists and mental health professionals, reaching schools, churches, organizations, unions, corporations, and community groups across the country.

One PDF.

Thousands of conversations.

Communities changed.

To ensure accessibility and broad representation, a limited number of complimentary directory listings will be reserved for Black therapists and mental health professionals from across Canada. Supporting partners and enhanced profiles will help fund printing and distribution efforts, allowing the resource to reach even more schools, families, and communities.

We’re currently looking to connect with:
• Black therapists and mental health professionals
• Mental health organizations
• School boards and educators
• Community organizations
• Potential sponsors and partners

Most importantly, we are open to suggestions. Those working directly with individuals and families every day understand the challenges, opportunities, and realities better than anyone.

Representation matters.

When children see Black leaders, inventors, artists, scientists, athletes, and changemakers in their learning materials, history becomes personal, inspiring, and empowering.

That's why we created our new Afrotastic: Black History Coloring Pages for Grades 3–6—a print-and-go resource featuring 30 notable Black Americans with engaging biographies, fun facts, and meaningful illustrations that encourage learning beyond Black History Month.

BLACK HISTORY MONTH 2027: A DIFFERENCE HAPPENS!

Careers That Change Communities is a national educational initiative that will launch during Black History Month 2027.

Through engaging, industry-specific educational resources, CTCC will introduce Black youth to career possibilities early in life while providing adults with practical information about scholarships, apprenticeships, training, employment opportunities, and career pathways.

These resources will be distributed digitally across Canada and in print through schools, educators, organizations, unions, libraries, and community partners.

The hope is simple:

If we can change what young people know, we can change what they become.
And if enough lives change, communities change.

That is the vision behind Careers That Change Communities (CTCC) through the Afrotastic platform.
