The Rabbi’s Blessing 12/13/2022

I'm pleased to announce the release of my first traditional klezmer album, The Rabbi's Blessing, under the banner of the Mike Anklewicz Klezmer Trio. The concept for this album originated in 2015 when I performed a traditional klezmer trio concert in the 350-year-old Portugese Synagogue in Amsterdam. I took the approach of performing "European" klezmer -- tunes that could be sourced to recordings and publications from Europe rather than the United States....

For my latest Mike Anklewicz x4 video, I've been wanting to do this gorgeous Gas Nign composed by the amazing klezmer violinist Steven Greenman, but it wouldn't be complete without Steve himself! So here it is, with special guest Steven Greenman!

Gas Nign

Composed by Steven Greenman
Produced, arranged and mixed by Mike Anklewicz

Violin - Steven Greenman
Clarinet, alto saxophone, tenor saxophone, MIDI programming - Mike Anklewicz

My latest multi-track creation: Sam Musiker's Uncle Max Bulgar for clarinet, 2 alto saxes and tenor sax! Credit to Michael Winograd, in whose "ear band" class at KlezKanada I learned this tune!

I arranged one of my favourite Horas for clarinet and three saxophones! Made popular by Dave Tarras, I've heard a version recorded by Belf before World War I in Europe. I hope you enjoy!

I finally dabbled in the world of solo multi-tracking and created this arrangement for Sher p54 in one of the Beregovski collections, a song I first learned from Shepherd at KlezKamp back in the year 2000 (I think . . .might have been 1999). Enjoy!

The Sax Conservatory Episode 3: Altissimo part 1! 05/13/2020

Episode 3 of The Sax Conservatory has just dropped and in it, I begin talking about how to play in the Altissimo register. We all hear great saxophonists play super high and we wonder, "how do they do that?" Well, here's the first part of how. For those young players out there who are still developing their embouchures, you may want to wait a big before trying some of these exercises, although you should be able to do the exercises here in this first part of the two-part series. Announcing: The Sax Conservatory! 03/27/2020

It's been a challenging couple of weeks of social distancing in Toronto. While the first week was March break, we're now coming to the end of the second week when we would have been back in the swing of things with the regular teaching schedule. Of course, like most musicians and artists out there, I lost my fair share of gigs to the complete cancellation of events, public and private, but I've also been using this time to try to be resourceful.
