On Tuesday, September 29, our Class of 2030 gathered on the Sydney Himel z”l Sports Field for our annual “We The Nines” competition! More than 400 Grade 9 students split into 19 teams for a morning of friendly competition and class-bonding.

Todah Rabah to all the student volunteers, faculty and staff who helped make it a fabulous morning. Mazal Tov to Ms. Levy’s Drama class for winning the competition, and to Ms. Yarndley’s and Ms. Abramsky’s classes for bringing the ruach and winning the spirit awards!

On Monday, September 28, welcomed members of the Toronto Police Service (TPS) to learn about Sukkot from four of our Madrichim (Student Leaders). Todah Rabah to Grade 11 students for sharing an introduction to Sukkot with our special guests. We are grateful for the ongoing support of the Toronto Police Service, Jewish Security Network (JSN), and AS Consulting, who continue to make the safety of our TanenbaumCHAT community a priority.

Last Thursday, kicked off the school year’s first Spirit Day—in PJs! Todah Rabah to all the students, faculty, and staff who dressed down and showed up with plenty of ruach (spirit). A special thank-you to our Student Council for packing big fun into the 10-minute break in the Hennick Family Atrium complete with cookies-and-milk, pillow fights and plenty of cozy flannel.

As we prepare to welcome both Sukkot and Shabbat this evening, our students enjoyed a busy morning of deliveries!

Our Singer and Zagdanski Families Learning Resource Centre transformed into our annual lulav and etrog distribution hub, where students, faculty and staff who placed orders could collect their sets. Meanwhile, our Student Ambassadors also delivered delicious challahs to our neighbours as a small token of gratitude for the warmth and kindness they show our school community.

On Friday at lunch, hosted our annual Club & Committee Fair. From charitable initiatives to sports, arts, business, Israel, and —if you can believe it— pickles, students had the perfect opportunity to live our school motto: Find Yourself. Before we sign off for Shabbat, we wanted to share a few photos from some of our Jewish Studies classes this week. As part of their learning, many of our students took a walk to G. Ross Lord Reservoir for Tashlich, an ancient ritual of symbolically casting away the mistakes and missteps of the past year and reflecting on how we can grow and improve in the year ahead. For many of our Grade 9 students, this was their first experience with Tashlich — a meaningful opportunity to pause, reflect and start the new year with intention.
