Letter H had us decorating holiday houses. The week before we had been building Gingerbread houses and we loved it so much we didn’t want to stop! We packaged these up as holiday gifts for our families.

Donuts and Dinosaurs were a delightful and delicious way to celebrate our letter D week! We also used bingo daubers to dot some dinos.

Dynamic letter D! If you want to get started with science of reading instruction, teaching grounded in phonemic awareness exercises is a great place to begin!

Letter D brought us a Dinosaur Dig in our sandbox! I added in some large letter stones that spelled out dinosaur, some paintbrushes to gently unearth our faux Dino-fossils, and some mini clipboards to record our discoveries.

Letter E was EXCELLENT! This year when I introduced E we mentioned that e has its soft sound like egg, it’s hard sound when it says it’s own name like in emu, and that sometimes it says NOTHING at all but makes other vowels say their own name! I was worried it would confuse them, but instead it made sounding out words so much easier because they knew they could try another sound if their first attempt at a word didn’t seem to work out.

It’s probably best to celebrate letters C and K with cupcakes! We turned our classroom into a cupcake factory. We even tried making cakes in an easy bake oven. They turned out hilariously shaped but delicious! We served our cakes and cupcakes in our cat cafe.

I have videos for both the letters C and K for you to use at home, online or in class! I use the link in my weekly email to the parents, so they can see what we learned in class or for students that missed classes.
