âSo, what do you do?â
âWe help teachers start their own businesses where they can create their own online courses/programsâ
âOh⊠so like Udemy? Or Coursera?â
Actually, no.
âWe help teachers build a business at the foundational level where they can learn to market, offer and sell their online courses through any social media platform they chooseâ
seeing it pique his interest, and he asks âSo, how do you help them and how did you get into this?â
Just smiling and excited to share because this has been a common question that most people ask when they first hear about us.
Being teachers ourselves, we know how challenging and intimidating it can be to start your own business without any knowledge or experience in it.
and so, we decided to invest in 4-5 different business coaches that taught us different strategies in how you can run a sustainable and successful business
And through this work, we came across teachers ourselves who were struggling to get clients because they had no experience in creating an outline for a program that they could sell to their clients
So, we saw this gap and noticed the challenges they faced and thought âhey, why donât we help these teachers with their programs so that they can have a solid outline they can sell to their clients?â
âLetâs create a mini-program and intense 12-days for these teachersâ
and within 1 month, we helped 14 teachers create a program outline that they can offer and some successfully got clients after taking our program.
From there, we were excited and happy to be helping teachers with their business that we chose to support them in this because we knew how it felt to be where they are.
If we could help them move one step forward, with our program, then thatâs all that counts.

Jessie Yu and I are always bursting with a million ideas that we want to implement and how we can better support our teachers
Sometimes, it can be such a blessing and other times it can be a headache
Only because thereâs so much we want to do and get out there and we ride the waves often that we sometimes forget to ask ourselves
âIs what we are choosing to do now aligning with our goals or is it taking away from what we are working towards?â
So, even though weâve put a gazillions ideas on hold, weâve learned to be better at not being swayed by our shiny penny ideas
Redirecting us back to what truly matters to us and that is helping teachers with their businesses by creating their own badass online courses/programs
So, when youâre stuck in a pickle of which direction you want to go or if you know you have an amazing idea, ask yourself this question:
âIs this task/new ideas moving me towards my goals or is it taking away from what I am working towards?â
Once you are able to answer that question, all the overthinking will subside and more certainty and clarity will come through âš

Doesnât it feel awkward when someone comes up to you and hands you a business card.
Youâre looking at it and not sure what to do with it.
Catches you off guard and you immediately think, âWho are you and no, I donât need your services.â
This happens often at most networking events and I still remember the first time someone did that to me
I honestly felt like a âleadâ or a ânumberâ to the person because she didnât even bother to get to know me.
It felt very transactional and it didnât sit right with me at all
So, what did I do with that card? Left it on my dining room table. In truth, this lead went âcoldâ
Sometimes, as entrepreneurs we get so caught up trying to âmake a saleâ that we forget what it actually feels like when a client receives a business card from us
We are so focused on meeting and networking with as many people as we can that it doesnât matter if this lead goes cold because we need to keep handing it out because only â1-3% of leads convertâ (or so weâre told)
Honestly, this isnât any different from sliding in to the DMs when you connect and send a message and say âHey, Iâm Mei, and I help teachers kickstart their own businesses with online courses and you are someone I can help!â and if they donât respond, FIND THE NEXT LEAD and keep going - very transactional
So, being on both sides of this, sending those DMs and receiving business cards/messages, Jessie and I decided to host an event called âSlow Networkingâ where we throw out the business cards, and bring it back to connection and building genuine relationships
In this event, we will be facilitating ice breakers and a variety of activities where you will get a chance to not only share who you are but get to know others as well
So, if youâd like to build and cultivate meaningful relationships, grab a ticket and join us on Thursday, May 30th from 1-3PM EST. (Link in the comments)

âNetworking? No, thatâs not for me!â
âI wouldnât even know what to say and Iâll be so awkwardâ
âItâs better to avoid it all and not go!â
Sound familiar?
Yes, that was me too, 3 years ago when I started this online business with Jessie Yu
Didnât think that networking was important, but later learnt that it is more than just meeting people, but practicing the skill of showing up for you and your business
An opportunity to represent who you are as a person, your values, your beliefs and what matters to you
By choosing not to attend a networking event, you are indirectly sharing that who you are, what you do isnât as important and itâs not worth discussing
And we all know that is not true, right?
Who you are and what you do does matter and you get to show up and share it with others!
We know that it can definitely be scary to attend a networking event, especially if itâs the first one youâve joined, but have no fear, Jessie and I will be taking things slow, like a sloth
At our event called âSlow Networkingâ, we focus on building meaningful connections first, and at the human level before diving into your business.
The reason why is because, sometimes, we get so caught up in the mission of âI got to give my business cards to EVERYONE tonightâ that we lose sight of the importance of cultivating a genuine relationship
Quality over quantity
Remember that people will forget what you said, and what you did, but they will always remember how you made them feel
So, rather than hustling to give business cards, choose to focus on what it feels like to focus and connect at a human level.
If this calls to you, and you want to take things slow with networking to share who you are and also build and cultivate genuine relationships, grab your ticket and join us on Thursday, May 30th 2024 in Toronto at 1-3PM EST (Link in the comments)

When you hear "online course", what do you think of? How do you interpret how online courses are run?
02/16/2024
đȘ âI donât want to start all over again.â
This is a sentiment that we hear repeatedly from teachers, and one I felt when I was thinking about pursuing a different path from teaching ESL at a college.
đ The thought of transitioning was scary and unknown. It felt safer to just stay with what I knew. I was already getting paid a decent amount. I knew how things worked. I knew I was a good teacher.
đ Also, what skills did I have outside of teaching? Didnât feel that I did have any. That I was even good enough for something else, so I never tried.
Felt if I wanted to switch, I had to go back to school and get more qualifications.
One thing I learned from starting this entrepreneurial journey is that you are never truly starting from scratch.
Your own experiences, life, work, relationships all take a place in becoming who you are today. You learned and grew and many of those skills you acquired are transferrable in different settings.
You are never starting all over again. All your experiences matter and are transferrable in different contexts.
đ§ Those times where you had to think on your feet as a parent to persuade your kids to do something they didnât want? That is sales.
đ§ The times where you spent all that time planning for your class? Organizational skills for planning events or hosting workshops.
đ§ The times you spent painting as a hobby? You could be creating a painting course for people to learn from. You can even start promoting your work and selling it.
These are just some examples. Think about how much more you have to offer.
Yes, you may still have to learn something new. But, if you werenât doing that, how would you be expected to continue to grow? Isnât life all about growing and becoming a better version of you so you can achieve your definition of success and happiness?
The next time you think, I canât do this, or I want something different, but I am not good enough. Remember this, you are good enough! You are more than enough! đ
