Literacy is part of learning in every subject. Students draw on reading, writing, and communication skills to make sense of mathematical problems, explain scientific ideas, explore social concepts, and share their thoughts.

To mark International Literacy Day, celebrated on September 8, the Margaret Wilson Library has curated a reading list featuring practical strategies to build literacy into a range of subjects and learning contexts.

How to access the reading list:
1. Access your College account on oct.ca by clicking Member Sign-in.
2. On the left navigation pane, click Library.
3. On the right navigation channel of the library page, Click on “Literacy in the Classroom” under featured Titles.

The Ontario College of Teachers licenses, governs and regulates the province’s teaching profession in the public interest and to protect students. All publicly funded school teachers and administrators in Ontario must be licensed by us and be Ontario Certified Teachers (OCT).

Discipline Committee panels review allegations involving Ontario Certified Teachers, with summaries shared to support professional learning by showing real examples of misconduct and reinforcing ethical practice.

In August, Ontario Certified Teachers (OCT) from across the province came together at the College to share professional experiences and perspectives that will help shape content to enhance understanding of the refreshed Professional Standards.
