Children played with straw connectors on the carpet. They attached the same straw colours and jacks together to create a “pick axe” from Minecraft. One of the children moved their blue “pick axe” up and down to pretend to find diamonds. Later, they combined the blue and red one she had to create a “giant pick axe”. They showed it to peers, who began to laugh. She walked over to teacher and showed them as well.

This week, we celebrated Halloween on Monday. Our toddlers all dressed up in different costumes; such as: Spider-man, minions, Chase and so on. Also, we created our Jack-o-Lantern together. Children were so excited to see and explore what’s inside of the pumpkin. They helped teacher to take out some pumpkin seeds from the pumpkin. They touched and smelled the pumpkin seeds. For the next day, we had the “pumpkin volcano Experiment” on the table. Children were adding vinegar and baking soda into the pumpkin. Then, they observed the bubbles were coming out from the pumpkin.

At the beginning of this week, the children in Room 6 were very excited to show off their Halloween Costumes. The next day, children shared their experiences with Trick-or-Treating in various locations such as going to a man or going from house to house. The children were curious about the dried pumpkin seeds as they continued to play and explore them in sensory bins. Several children suggested to plant the pumpkin seeds so we prepared the soil for our classroom container and outdoor garden. Planting the seeds in two locations will allow children to observe the differences and similarities in the growing process. Children will take turns watering the plants on a weekly basis. This planting project will provide the opportunity for children to observe and learn about the growing process. Children will be able to learn valuable live skills such as responsibility, problem solving, decision making, caring and team work.
