New Dividend Achievement unlocked 🏆

🏆 Last year, I wanted to cross the $3500 mark on actual dividends earned (including reinvestments). And you guys, I actually did it!?
🏆 Also, I wanted to build a portfolio that could generate a target of $3500 in annual dividends. And I'm almost there. In fact, with some luck, I may still achieve this goal.

Why am I sharing this? Because I believe that it's important to set context about these results. Every year, I set financial goals for my income, savings and investing. I use these as benchmarks and try to be as disciplined and consistent as I can be, irrespective of what is going on in the markets. The numbers I share are an accumulation of 4 years worth of regular investing and is still a work in progress. I have much further to go to achieve my long term retirement goals - like we're $2M away, you know!? 😅 But setting and achieving smaller targets keeps me motivated and on track!

I haven't done a dividend post in a while, so I figured I could share the progress from the last few months as part of my year end recap. Hopefully you find this post educational or inspirational.

Do you know what it's like to be paid without having to do much work for it?

That's how I feel every week when I get dividend payment notifications. It's a very rewarding feeling and gives me a little boost. Most appreciated, especially when the baby has one of his Velcro baby days 😅🤣

Recently, I've been starting to think about all the possibilities of the new year. So I need to keep reminding myself about my time/energy limits and be realistic about what is achievable.

In a few months, our baby will be a year old. I can't believe it's been so quick! I will be returning from maternity leave to my full time job. I would love nothing more than to pick up from where I left off. To keep growing and advancing in my career, which is really important to me. But one of my top priorities is also taking care of my family.

It has been and will continue to be a tricky situation to manage. I've had to redefine my limits and have come to appreciate how differently I think about productivity now. My time is precious and there are so many things to balance: family, work, hobbies, home projects, travel, online courses, etc. I've got a long list of things to do. Only time will tell if I'll get all (or any) of them done. Wish me luck!

Are you thinking about your future? 👀

As we wrap up 2024, let's think of all the fantastic promises me made at the start of the year. Moving to a bigger house, marriage, travel, having kids, retirement... Big, bright and beautiful dreams that we all hold in our hearts. It's time to turn those dreams into a reality. So these are pretty intuitive, but stay with me. The basic things are sometimes the ones we forget 😂🤔

Here are 4 simple ways to fast track your investments and help achieve your financial goals quicker:
💸Breakdown your investments by goals. Some apps will let you track your move by goal, or you could use separate accounts/ tracking sheets for this.
💸Automate all those contributions and purchases. If you're thinking about it and waiting for the perfect time, you're more likely to forget or skip or delay those contributions.
💸 Got left over cash from your budget or a few bills that you've been gifted? Great! Invest it!
💸 If you're already doing all the above and still want to do more... Then maybe you should start looking for a side hustle or opportunity to increase your income. More money= more investments.

Ooh! It's starting to get really cold out and that means the holidays are almost here!

As much as I love to shop this time of the year, I've got to prioritize our family's future. So I've setup auto deposits into my investment accounts. This happens like clockwork on every single pay check. The standard $1000/month is a MUST. Anything over that is a bonus and depends on how much I've spent/saved in that month.

Do you know what it's like to be paid without having to do much work for it?

That's how I feel every week when I get dividend payment notifications. Over the past 4 years, I've been increasing consistently in ETFs and a very few stocks. It's so rewarding to see my portfolio grow and gives me a little motivation boost to keep going. Most appreciated, especially when we're having one of those Velcro baby days 😅🤣

Just a quick recap, what you're looking at are my investment accounts (not including spouse or baby) specifically TFSA, RRSP and non registered accounts. This does not include cash, chequing or savings accounts.
