Dr. Mark Cattral preformed the University Health Network’s 1000th living donor liver transplant (LDLT) this spring. Professor Cattral, alongside Dr. Paul Greig, (Professor Emeritus and former Toronto Fellowship Director), performed the first LDLT in Canada 25 years ago. A team of surgeons led by Dr. Blayne Amir Sayed at Toronto’s SickKids Hospital successfully removed a basketball-sized tumour from six-month old baby Felix in February. The cancerous tumour, considered inoperable by some, took 8 hours to remove. Baby Felix is now back home in Winnipeg undergoing treatment, and thriving against all odds.
