Hey Glendon students!
G.U.E.S.S. is proud to be hosting essay-writing workshops every Friday for the next month. Everybody can come, and everybody should come! You can always get better at writing essays, and G.U.E.S.S. is run by passionate and knowledgeable English students who can give you some great pointers.
On November 6th, we’re going to be going through an overview of the academic essay. What is an academic essay? What are the expectations and rules? What should you include in the body, in the introduction, in the conclusion? This workshop will answer all these questions and more.
On November 13th, we’re going to focus on crafting a strong thesis, and on structuring the essay. The thesis is the central part of every academic essay, and a good structure really helps with readability and cohesion, so this is a crucial workshop.
On November 20th, we’re going to be going hard on citations, arguments, and analysis. This is the real meat of the essay— your ideas!
On November 27th, the final workshop, we’re going to be looking at sourcing. Finding good secondary sources, making a bibliography or works cited, figuring out MLA, APA, Chicago, all that jazz. The stuff the hard markers always get you on.
We hope to see you there!

Hey Folks! My name is Jay Dipak Patel, Im a 4th year English and History Major student in Concurrent Education, and I’m super excited to be your Co Vice President for G.U.E.S.S. this year! My goal is to help grow our community and create ways to support the English Studies community at Glendon! You can often find me dancing, catching up on a novel on my E-Reader, or (before COVID-19) running around both campuses to a meeting or class. My favorite English class is 1903: English in the World; The world in English. I hope to (virtually) see you folks this year!

Hi everyone! My name is Charlotte and I am your VP of Operations this year! I’m in the Con-Ed program at Glendon and my favorite English course so far is En1900. It covers prevalent topics and requires engaging pieces of literature. If I am not studying in the COE then I am either at the GAC or surrounded by art supplies journaling or painting. Day 1 of Meet the Team! - Introducing your G.U.E.S.S President!

Hey there! I’m Shelby Shapiro – a fourth year English and Theatre Student! I am extraordinarily delighted to be your 2020-2021 President of GUESS! As last year’s only Vice-President and co-signing authority, I am overjoyed to introduce our lovely new team of executives. Though I keep a busy schedule as head of GUESS, a double major, and a proud employee of Book City, never be scared to stop me in my tracks to say hello and introduce yourself! I’m always down to talk books and films, just be prepared to walk away with a list of recommendations! My favorite English Course is GL/EN 3942 Post-national Perspectives: Contemporary Canadian Literature's. I can’t wait to see what we accomplish this year!
