Haven't seen this in years (great for kids).
Beethoven was a bit of an obsessive perfectionist, (after how his father treated him as a child? Anyone who goes through that abuse is bound to have some core fear of making mistakes.) But it's in how he projects the same perfectionist standards on others? Beethoven might of been a great composer, but not a very good friend.
The correlation between Trauma and "difficult people" is real, even in the 1800s. Notice soon as Beethoven feels safe; he almost becomes a totally different person. Soon as someone comes asking for him to be professional? you get this roaring lion. Even when he was famous, Beethoven never really could make friends or keep them for long because of this temper.
Rule of thumb for people like that goes like this:
"If you want the lion? Just give them "the buisness" and keep your distance.
But if you want the cub? Don't shame them for struggling" (just watch how the mom handles him and you'll get an idea). Leave the buisness out of it, and focus on what everyone's feeling in that moment.
When it comes to childhood trauma, remember in that moment of outburts? Beethoven doesn't care if people are playing the wrong notes, as much as he is still avoiding getting hit by his father.
You'll never win that skin deep argument because that's not what's really bothering them.
^this is why when in different theraputic situations you'll notice a heavy emphasis on exploring expressing feelings. Much of the frustration we feel during those moments is because we are trying to find a solution to a problem that doesn't exist. Letting go ain't easy always.
The musics great, the hokey acting is awesome, AND since it's Canadian produced? We're officially on our way of being CANCON friendly 😜
Enjoy the flick 🙂
