Neil Percival Young was born at Toronto General Hospital on November 12th, 1945. The future songwriter would be raised in Omemee, Ontario and Winnipeg, Manitoba before heading back to Toronto as a young man. He would work at a Coles bookstore at Yonge and Charles, before breaking into the Yorkville music scene of the 1960s and onward becoming one of the most successful folk musicians of all time.

Toronto in Kodachrome: This has to be my favourite photo of Yonge St. It perfectly catches Toronto in the 60's. The original from the Toronto Telegram (1965) now resides in the Pete Coulman Collection ( 2014 ). How many bars or restaurants can you make out from the Neon signs ? It does have a bit of a 50's Vegas feel doesn't it ? (Toronto Telegram/Pete Coulman Collection ).
