The Reggio Emilia Approach was founded by Loris Malaguzzi and emerged from a city-sponsored education system in Reggio Emilia, a town located in Northern Italy.
Since its inception, the Reggio Emilia Approach has earned worldwide recognition. At Viva Kids, we consider ourselves “Reggio-Emilia Inspired,” joining the many classrooms around the globe that have adopted its core values and beliefs.

At Viva Kids we employ process vs. product focused art. This means there are no step-by-step instructions or samples for children to follow. The art is focused on the exploration of different tools, materials and techniques, not on the end product.
The result? Children who feel engaged, relaxed and empowered to trust their own artistic instincts.

This autumn we're kicking off a series on the guiding principles of Reggio Emilia! ✨ Up first: The Image of the Child.
Every child is strong, capable, independent, curious, and full of imagination. Our program creates an environment to allow children to think, question, investigate, explore, and help navigate the journey of learning.
We can practice this by releasing expectations and taking a step back. We want to give children an opportunity to experiment, succeed, or fail, and try again. We can let preschoolers dress themselves, even if the clothes are backwards. We can let the water spill or the block tower tumble over. We can model good listening and be mindful not to interrupt young people. ⭐️

We use a variety of natural and manufactured loose parts to create open-ended activities we call “provocations” for our students. They are an opportunity for deep, imaginative learning and expression.
Our students light up when they see new provocations set up for them in the classroom and our educators find a lot of joy in curating fun and interesting offerings for the students to explore.
