Congratulations to current U of T Opera student, Camille Labonté and U of T Opera alumni, Aemilia Moser and James Coole-Stevenson for being selected to perform in the finals of the Eckhardt-Gramatté National Music Competition! Bravi tutti!
The Eckhardt-Gramatté National Music Competition for the performance of Canadian and contemporary music is a memorial to composer, pianist, and violinist S.C. (Sonia) Eckhardt-Gramatté, who spent the last twenty-one years of her life in Manitoba. It fulfills her lifelong dream of creating a means by which the music of contemporary composers could make its presence felt by young musicians on the threshold of their careers. The E-Gré National Music Competition has been held annually since 1976 at Brandon University.

Two weeks ago, students in the U of T Opera program had the honour of working with the John R. Stratton Visitor in Music, Carrie-Ann Matheson. An acclaimed conductor, pianist, and educator, she led both public masterclasses and private coachings, generously sharing her artistry and insight. We were inspired, learned an incredible amount, and are grateful for the opportunity to have worked with her!
