The University of Guelph-Humber's Justice Studies program is entering a new era.

With a revamped curriculum and new innovative spaces, the program is evolving to match the needs of expanding career paths and the communities that justice professionals serve.

There are even more course options available in crime analysis, advanced investigations, and the law, along with more paid work-integrated learning opportunities. Students can learn about drone technologies, cybercrime prevention, alternative dispute resolution, and more.

Plus, a new mock courtroom and a “Crime Lab” are now open.

Headset on, reality altered.

Media & Communication Studies students at the University of Guelph-Humber are learning to become immersive storytellers by harnessing the power of extended reality (XR) in the New World: Exploring XR course.

Students Sophia Barcellona, Shannon Coady, Valentina Mikhailov, and Avery Patterson from the Winter 2026 session achieved a significant milestone when their class project – “Somnia – Do Students Dream of Overdue Sheep?” – was selected and showcased at the Festival of International Virtual and Augmented Reality Stories in Toronto.

“There's a difference between what can be portrayed through a flat, normal video and a 360 [degree] video,” Coady said.

Students can access VR headsets and cameras to create content at the Technology Resource Centre, located at GH320.

A new student society is coming to the University of Guelph-Humber this fall: the Liberal Studies Society! 📚

The society wants to spotlight the variety of electives at U of GH while connecting students from across each program.

The Liberal Studies Society's inaugural president, Charlie Stewart, said she is excited for the networking possibilities the group will bring, and to help guide students with picking which electives are right for them.

After all, electives are important because they allow students to expand their education outside of their program disciplines and broaden their scope of learning.
