๐Ÿฆ‡๐ŸŽƒHAPPY HALLOWEEN FROM OHC!๐ŸŽƒ๐Ÿฆ‡

Orange Heart Club says, "Happy Halloween" through the exploration of identity!

Last week at Orange Heart Club: Afterschool, we explored identity through reflective group conversations which led many to the discovery of self! Our introspective conversations were followed by Identity Pumpkins; an activity designed to open your child to the wonderous world of self-expression! ๐ŸŽƒ๐ŸŽจ

Using pumpkins, each of us created a pumpkin that represented a favorite part of our identities.
๐Ÿ’ญAsk your child which part of their identity they chose!

Did you miss the last session? Use the prompts and activity guide below to continue or begin conversations of reconciliation at home!

๐Ÿค”HOW DO WE REFLECT? ๐Ÿค”

๐Ÿ’ญHave you heard the word โ€œIdentityโ€ before? What does it mean? Can you name an example?

๐Ÿ’ญWhat parts of our identities are we most proud of? What parts do we struggle with?

๐Ÿ’ญHow can Identity create inclusion? exclusion? (Share a story of either or both and explain how it impacted you and your identity moving forward

๐Ÿ–Œ๏ธACTIVITY TIME!๐Ÿ–Œ๏ธ

MATERIALS NEEDED:
Pumpkins, Paint, Paint brushed, Stickers, Glitter, Glue, Paper, scissors
๐ŸŽจShowcase the pumpkins to your children! The pumpkin represents them!

๐ŸŽจUse the pumpkin to showcase different aspects of your identity

๐ŸŽจRemind your children that everyoneโ€™s identity is a bit different. Our location and experiences with others shape us!

๐Ÿงก National Day for Truth and Reconciliation - September 30, 2023 ๐Ÿงก

Today, we come together to recognize a poignant moment in our nation's history. A day to stand shoulder to shoulder with the thousands of First Nations, Mรฉtis, and Inuit residential school survivors. To remember and honour those who never made their way home. We wear orange as a symbol of acknowledgment, respect, and the ongoing journey of healing.

The deep-rooted trauma of residential schools persists, with its impacts reverberating through generations. Our Indigenous youth still grapple with the aftermath of this painful legacy. However, acknowledging the past is only the first step. Action is needed.

๐Ÿ’ก Here's what you can do:

๐Ÿงก Wear Orange: Show your solidarity and commitment.
๐ŸงกEducate yourself: Understand the significance of the orange shirt and the stories behind it.
๐Ÿงก Read the TRC Calls to Action: Knowledge leads to empathy. Empathy leads to change.
๐ŸงกSupport: Indigenous voices, artists, businesses, and especially the youth who carry the future.

Today, we ask you to consider taking action in addressing the legacy of residential schooling and the various other harmful policies of settler-colonialism. We are working hard to support our young people who have been impacted by the intergenerational effects of these harmful policies and are often struggling. Donate today so that we can continue offering Indigenous mental health and healing services to our community.

Your donation isn't just money. It's hope, support, and a pledge to ensure that the youth under our care thrive mentally and emotionally. By choosing to donate to us, you're investing in their future.

Don't just wear orange. Be part of the solution. Act now and donate.
