There’s one thing that can make running your business feel lighter:

Knowing your books are current and cared for.

Because the mental load of unfinished bookkeeping is real.

You might be serving clients, answering emails, making decisions, and keeping everything moving… while one little corner of your brain is still thinking about receipts, HST, missing statements, or whatever is waiting in QuickBooks.

That is exhausting.

And when the books finally stop living in your head?

You get some space back.

If you’re ready for that kind of relief, check the links I shared in the comments!

I hear this all the time after a cleanup:

“I feel so much better. I can finally sleep at night.”

And that’s the part I love the most for my clients. Because when your books are behind, the stress doesn’t only show up when you’re sitting at your desk.

It follows you while you’re making dinner.

It pops into your head when you’re trying to relax.

It gives you that little stomach drop when tax time gets mentioned.

Clean books can feel like putting down a bag you forgot you were carrying. I wrote more about what it can look like to catch up on your books and get back to a calmer place. Link is in the comments. 👇

If you can’t seem to catch up on your bookkeeping, that doesn’t mean you’re bad at business.

Usually, it’s not laziness. It’s overwhelm, confusion, and that very human fear of opening the file and finding out it’s worse than you thought.

That fear can make the whole thing feel heavier every time you think about it. I wrote this week’s blog to help you see the first few steps without spiralling.

If someone calls saying they’re from CRA, you don’t have to start spilling information like you’re on a game show timer.

A real CRA employee should be able to give you their name, phone number, and office location. From there, go through official CRA contact options or check your CRA account if you have access.

After that, you can figure out what CRA is asking for, whether anything is missing, and what records you need next.

I shared the next steps in the blog below.

I know bookkeeping is not usually the exciting part of running a business.

No one’s lighting a candle and saying, “Ah yes, reconciliation time.”

But when CRA calls? Different story. 🫨

That’s when you want your numbers to make sense. You want to know what was earned, what was spent, what was collected, what was paid, and what still needs attention.

Good bookkeeping gives you something solid to stand on.

Has a letter from CRA ever made you want to become unreachable until further notice?

I wrote a new blog post about what to do when CRA contacts you about your business taxes. We’re talking scam-checking, missing returns, money owing, messy records, and the first few steps that make everything feel a little less impossible. 🤓

If you’ve been thinking about incorporating, pause for a second and ask yourself this:

Why do I actually want to do it? 🤔

To save tax?
To look more official?
To create more structure as the business grows?

Your answer matters because incorporation depends on your income, your risk, and how much money you need to pull out personally.

If you want a quick gut-check, my latest blog will help you figure out whether your reason holds up, or whether this is a “later” decision.

I said what I said. 💪

Adding “Inc.” doesn’t sprinkle order over chaos. It adds more moving parts, more rules, and more places for things to get confusing if the books aren’t clean.

If you’re thinking about incorporating this year, do yourself a favour and get the bookkeeping piece solid first. Your future self (and your accountant) will thank you.

If you’re in the “should I incorporate?” spiral, book a call with me. We’ll sort it out without the headache. 😉

Okay, small business owners… can we talk about the advice “You should incorporate”? 🤓

It gets tossed around like it’s the obvious next step. Like you just add “Inc.” and suddenly everything is simpler, cheaper, and more official.

Meanwhile, you’re sitting there thinking:

- What does that actually change?
- Does it save tax for me?
- Is it worth the extra admin?

I wrote a new blog post that breaks it down in plain English. No jargon spiral, I promise!

Quick question for business owners 🤔

If I asked you, “What did you keep last month?” could you answer without opening your bank app and squinting?

That pause is a bigger deal than most people think.

When you know your monthly profit, the noise drops. You make decisions with your shoulders down. You stop wondering if you can afford something, and you start knowing.

I wrote about the simplest way to get that number each month, and it’s on the blog if you want it.
