🇨🇦 CANADA UPDATES IMMIGRATION LOAN GUIDANCE FOR CERTAIN PR AND REFUGEE CLIENTS

On September 18, 2026, IRCC updated its instructions and agreements for the Immigration Loans Program.

The program may assist eligible resettled refugees, Economic Mobility Pathways Pilot applicants and certain other permanent-residence clients with:

✅ Transportation to Canada
✅ Eligible initial settlement expenses
✅ Certain employment-access costs
✅ The Right of Permanent Residence Fee

Loans are interest-free, but eligibility, repayment and documentation requirements apply. This is not a new permanent-residence pathway or a loan available to every applicant.

Anyone with a pending loan request should confirm whether IRCC requires an updated agreement. Do not resubmit previously signed documents unless instructed.

🇺🇸🇨🇦 GRADUATE SCHOLARSHIP APPLICATIONS OPEN FOR INTERNATIONAL WOMEN

The P.E.O. International Peace Scholarship is now accepting eligibility forms for eligible international women pursuing graduate study in the United States or Canada.

✅ Need-based awards of up to $12,500
✅ Available for eligible full-time graduate degrees
✅ Applicants must have at least one full year of formal coursework remaining
✅ Confirmed admission and additional funding resources are required

📅 Eligibility-form deadline: December 15, 2026
📅 Final application deadlines: February 1 or March 15, 2027, depending on enrolment status

The scholarship does not cover every academic or personal expense, and citizenship, residency and return-home requirements apply.

🇨🇦 NEW CANADA RULE ALLOWS ELIGIBLE WORKERS TO TAKE SHORT-TERM STUDIES

The Government of Canada has introduced a temporary policy allowing eligible foreign workers to study without obtaining a separate study permit.

To qualify, applicants must generally:

✅ Hold a valid Canadian work permit
✅ Choose a course or program lasting no more than six months
✅ Complete their authorized studies before their work permit expires

The measure became effective on September 4, 2026 and is scheduled to remain available until December 31, 2027.

⚠️ Important: If a worker studies full-time, work experience gained during that period will not count toward Canadian Experience Class eligibility or Canadian work-experience points under Express Entry.

Workers with an active PR or BC PNP application should review the possible immigration impact before changing their study or employment schedule.

Swinburne University of Technology has opened Round 2 applications for its Research Stipend Scholarships.

Successful international applicants may receive:

✅ A$35,500 annual living stipend
✅ Funding for three years, with a possible six-month extension
✅ Tuition fees covered for up to four years
✅ Possible relocation and thesis allowances

📅 Applications opened: 7 September 2026
📅 Application deadline: 9 October 2026
📅 Referee-report deadline: 16 October 2026

The scholarships support eligible applicants pursuing a PhD or Professional Doctorate. Academic, research, supervisor, English-language and documentation requirements apply.

🇬🇧 IMPORTANT UK STUDENT VISA FINANCIAL UPDATE

The UK Government has confirmed an increase to the maintenance funds required for Student visa applications submitted on or after 30 November 2026.

International students will generally need to show:

✅ £1,570 per month when studying in London
✅ £1,203 per month when studying outside London
✅ Funds for up to nine months, in addition to any outstanding course fees

This means a maximum maintenance requirement of £14,130 in London or £10,827 outside London.

Applications submitted before 30 November 2026 will be assessed under the previous financial amounts. Other requirements and exemptions may apply depending on the applicant’s circumstances.
