Tomorrow marks another day to celebrate living in Canada. As a country, we continue to grow and learn from the past and there is still so much to be grateful for.

July 1 marks seven years since the start of Spellbound Education. I am thankful for all the families that I work with. Over they years, they have allowed me into their homes, and invited me to be part of their lives.

Over the years, I have watched so many children go from frustrated to confident, stuck to flexible, and succeed where it didn't seem possible. It has been so amazing to see the shift and changes in attitudes toward learning; and towards themselves. I can sense the frustration when a child knows they are smart, but "can't get it out!" Today, the same children are graduating with honours, getting awards and moving on to university. For the opportunity to be part of this, I am incredibly grateful.

Do you have experience with different font types? I make it a point to keep things as consistent as possible when planning my lessons. I try to choose fonts that are as simple as possible but also show the full letter formation. Nothing fancy - just want to make sure the letters are recognizable!

Today was another day of learning for me. I attended the virtual conference hosted by the Virginia Branch International Dyslexia Association. They always bring in great guests and today was no different. The highlights for me were listening to Sarah Ward for the first time. What a great presentation about connecting Executive Function and starting a task - namely writing tasks in Literacy. This is an area that many teachers - including myself - want to change and improve. We want the best for our students, however, getting them to start writing (and follow through) is often a massive undertaking. Sarah Ward, of Cognitive Connections, gave us great insight into how to activate students for writing and demonstrated how to differentiate the tasks too.
