Good governance doesn’t begin in the boardroom. It begins by listening to the people closest to the work.

The Leonnova team was pleased to attend the Sioux Lookout First Nations Health Authority (SLFNHA) AGM and connect with our client, Sioux Lookout Regional Physician Services Inc. (SLRPSI).

We recently supported SLRPSI through a governance review focused on strengthening accountability, clarifying roles and enabling effective decision-making. At the heart of this work was listening to the perspectives of physician leaders, First Nations communities and leadership, and healthcare partners across the region.

Thank you to everyone who generously shared their time, knowledge and experience. We are proud to support leaders committed to strengthening healthcare services across northern communities.

Good leaders always have the answer.

That is not leadership. It is an impossible standard.

The strongest leaders know when to provide direction and when to ask a better question.

“What are we missing?”

“What would change your recommendation?”

“Who else should we hear from?”

Having every answer can make a team dependent on one person. Asking sharper questions helps the team think, contribute and take ownership.

Your title does not require you to know everything. It requires you to create the conditions for the best answer to emerge.

We had the opportunity to facilitate a “Negotiating with Confidence” workshop in partnership with the Institute on Governance (The Institute on Governance), leveraging Dr. Haniyeh Yousofpour’s (Dr. Haniyeh Yousofpour) published book with the same title!

Participants were leaders from non-profit and public sector, who were invested and open to putting new techniques into practice during the session’s live simulations. Watching them apply the learnings in real time and analyzing their own approach was genuinely energizing.

Grateful for the partnership and the chance to work with such a motivated group.
