It is no secret that the disruptions in schooling caused by the pandemic have been connected to significant learning gaps for many of our students here in Ontario.

Our Summer 2021 Small Group Tutoring program seeks to fill the learning gaps that students may have experienced in their English classes. We focus on equipping students with the key, curriculum-based knowledge, skills, and resources needed to thrive in their upcoming English classes!

Our program facilitator is an OCT Certified English teacher who comes with an abundance of passion, tools, and in-depth knowledge of curriculum standards to ensure that students have exactly what they need to learn and practice those key literacy skills—literary analysis, active reading, proper paragraph writing and citations, essay writing, etc.

Feel free to send us a DM, text, call, or email for further information.

In 2018, I remember the day I went searching for the document, “Ontario First Nation, Métis, and Inuit Education Policy Framework,” and was met with an unkindly message. It was a week or so after the Ford government was elected and I was working on an independent study project related to Indigenizing Ontario’s education system. Needless to say, I was frequenting this document and the government website that hosted it, quite a bit, at the time.

A pop up appeared at the top of the government website dedicated to providing updates and resources on Ontario’s commitment to reconciliation with Indigenous peoples. The pop up read: “Page archived. This page is no longer current and is provided for archival and research purposes.”

This meant that the efforts, policy documents, money, and planning that was poured into addressing the legacy of residential schools, closing gaps and removing barriers, and the commitment to reconciliation efforts in Ontario’s curriculum all came to a halt.

Inclusive of this halt was the cancellation of Ontario’s curriculum rewrite that would boost Indigenous content in our education system. In 2016, the Liberal government promised that Ontario's schools would educate all students on the legacy of residential schools and incorporate Indigenous perspectives into the provincial curriculum.

Many, including Selo Inc., are calling on the provincial government to reinstate the curriculum rewrite project immediately.
