The need is not abstract, and it is not far away.
In Toronto, more than 15,000 people are now experiencing homelessness, up from around 7,300 in 2021, and the shelter system runs close to full, with roughly 9,800 people housed on an average night.
Getting someone off the street is rarely one big act. It is the daily, patient work of sitting with a person, sorting out income and ID, navigating waitlists, and building a housing plan one step at a time.
That work has a name.
Community service workers do it every day, in shelters, drop-ins, outreach teams and community agencies across the city.
The need is growing.
So is the call for people to do this work.

Two credentials, one career path.
The Associate Gambling Counsellor (AGC) is the way in: meet the education standard, submit a supervisor evaluation, and start building recognised hours.
The Certified Gambling Counsellor (CGC) is the full credential, calling for a counselling degree (or Addiction Counsellor certification), 60 hours of gambling-specific training, and 20 hours of direct counselling at a recognised facility.
Most people start as an associate and upgrade as they grow.
Wherever you're standing, there's a step for you.

304,000 is not a rounding error. It's the number of Canadians carrying moderate-to-severe gambling harm, and many never reach someone trained to help.
Specialised counsellors change that number one person at a time. π

Every learner weighs the same thing before they enrol: "Is this actually recognized, or am I just taking someone's word for it?"
Accreditation answers that question before they have to ask it. It tells learners, and the employers who'll hire them, that your program has been independently reviewed and meets a real standard.
