“Little knot here. You can work on that.”
This week’s task: sorting through the digital drawer of CDHI’s systems.
Felt a little like this scene from Christmas Vacation.
Behind the research is a web of platforms, plugins, and passwords.
Some we still use.
Some we’ve outgrown.
And a few… we can’t quite remember.
Untangling it isn’t glamorous.
But it matters.

The CDHI transition team met for the first time last week.
In earlier years, meetings began with a question—quirky, disarming, sometimes ridiculous:
What’s your walk-on song?
What’s a genuine sign of spring, for you?
What’s the best pasta shape?
One time…
Date, Marry, Kill: Bread, Rice, Pasta?
The goal was connection—a way to bring warmth into a virtual room.
Our water cooler.
This meeting opened with intros.
New names, new roles, new beginnings.
The quirky question didn’t come.
But it was remembered.

This moment at CDHI feels a little like this.
Wide open.
In motion, but not yet clear.
A pause before the next thing.
We don’t know yet what will stay,
what will shift,
or what will vanish.
But we’re still here.

📢 ICYMI: Building Joyful Teams in Humanities Research! 💡✨
Earlier this month, CDHI’s Interim Faculty Director, Claire Battershill (), and Managing Director, Danielle Taschereau Mamers (), shared their insights at the Healthy Research Teams Symposium. Their talk, “Building Joyful Teams in Humanities Research,” explored how small, consistent acts of connection and clear structures create the foundation for joy in team-based work.
From re-imagining traditional events like to fostering meaningful moments during onboarding and offboarding, Claire and Danielle showed how Digital Humanities research thrives when collaboration is creative, critical, and community-focused. ❤️
