Long before modern cities rose across Canada, the Haudenosaunee (Iroquois Confederacy) were building powerful symbols of unity and community — the Longhouse.
These weren’t just houses.
They were entire clans living under one roof.
Stretching up to 100 feet long, built with wooden frames and covered in bark, longhouses were warm, strong, and designed for harsh Eastern Canadian winters. Multiple families lived inside — each with their own space, but sharing central fires.
💡 And here’s the powerful part:
The Haudenosaunee Confederacy itself was often called “The People of the Longhouse.”
The structure symbolized political unity between nations.
📍Found across what is now Ontario, Quebec, and northeastern North America.
Long before modern architecture talked about “sustainable design” and “community living”… Indigenous peoples were already doing it.
✨ Built for survival.
✨ Built for family.
✨ Built for unity.
Respect the roots. Learn the history.
👇 Would you live in a longhouse with your whole clan?

ON ARCADES, ARCADE STRUCTURES & ANGULAR PLANES ALONG FUTURE RROWS (SUCH AS ARTERIAL ROADS). The arcade and arcade structure are within property boundaries i.e. outside the road right-of-way (RROW). To create arcaded streets, the same must first be officially declared (i.e. zoned) as an arcaded street by the authority having jurisdiction (AHJ) over the development e.g. LGU or DPWH or another infrastructure agency or GOCC focused on land and property development. Note the observance of the angular planes that apply to all RROWs and the front yards of properties.
Arcading i.e. providing for either or both arcades and arcade structures can be readily achieved through the approval/passage of the zoning ordinance (ZO) and/or a special ordinance (SO) for LGUs or of the detailed master development plan (DMDP) and of the updated/refined development guidelines and design guidance (DGDG) document for non-LGU AHJs.
The same shall then constitute part of the deed of restrictions (DoR) on the use/occupancy of the properties along such a declared arcaded street. Thanks.
