Think about a career and not just 'finding a job'❗

I have learnt along the way that those who desire to build a career and not just find a job tend to find more fulfillment in the long run.

What's your focus and do you own your value?

👉🏾The Number 1 Thing I Wish I Knew During Graduate School in Canada👈🏾

Graduate school in Canada was nothing short of being interesting. Imagine arriving in a new country where the climate is the exact opposite of where you are from. Consider classes starting at 8 am and it’s snowing outside, you have to take a bus at a bus stop that’s minutes away. I kid you not, I questioned my decision several times over. However, I persevered, like many other immigrants who came to Canada to pursue graduate degrees. I, like the others, have done my best and I am proud.

Truth is, the journey was challenging and in retrospect, there’s one thing I wish I knew during graduate school.

That was how to “GRANT MYSELF GRACE”

This is true for many of us, in all areas of our lives, whether it be at work, as parents, in our personal and professional lives.

When we grant ourselves grace, we are really just taking care of ourselves mentally and lending support to our overall well-being. It is about understanding what is in our control and releasing that which we cannot control and then moving forward.

There were moments throughout graduate school that I was very critical of myself and had unrealistic expectations especially after the birth of my daughter. Truth is, things changed at that moment and had to change. Had I known how to grant myself grace, I would have been more understanding towards myself especially when I made a mistake or couldn’t show up how I would have wanted to.

No one is perfect and even a carefully thought out and executed plan will still have obstacles and hurdles to get over. That’s just life.

Pursuing studies is challenging and doing so as an immigrant makes it even more challenging. Therefore when you find you are becoming too critical of yourself, take a moment to grant yourself grace. It is the only way to make sustainable changes that will have a positive impact on your goals, mental health and overall well-being.

I will keep granting myself grace and moving forward.

Comment 🙏🏾 if you intend to do the same.

🎯 I Commit to 1% Improvement Daily…

I was never one to care much about new year’s resolutions, I am very much into goal setting. Setting and achieving goals, whether short-term or long-term, is very important to me.

The aspect of goal setting gives me something to work towards and I aim to always improve and grow.

Arriving in Canada, the goal was to complete a graduate degree and ultimately launch a successful career as an immigrant woman. So far I have obtained the degree and have taken strategic steps to launch my career here in Canada. I focus much of my energy now on attracting the opportunities I desire.

Reality is, things take time and for many of us we give ourselves a hard time focusing on the time it will take us to achieve X rather than focusing on the small simple steps we can take now that will all lead us to where we need to be.

So for 2022, I have decided to not be fixated on 6 months or 90-day goals but rather aim to improve by a mere 1% daily. The daily 1% will lead us to achieving so much in 90-days or 6 mths.

Let's aim for 1% daily!

Double tap ❤ if you will aim for 1% daily too.

Change is inevitable! Whether you are moving to a new country, city, changing careers, you've become a parent, etc. Whatever the reason surrounding the change, we need to remember the discomfort is only temporary.

In the beginning stage, we are learning to adjust, accept and adapt to the "new" or the "different". It's OK to feel clueless, uncomfortable or overwhelmed. Change is necessary and these feelings will be temporary.

Sometimes you need to change the things and people you surround yourself with in an effort to make room for the things and people that will take you to the next level.

Growth is messy at times!

Be open to growing anyway!

🚫You attract what you are 🚫

There's so much more that you can achieve but unless you believe in your value and ability to have it all....you'll consistently get mediocrity.

You can accomplish what you want to when you want to. However you don't gain high-level opportunities from low-level effort.

❌ Fear of failure
❌ Fear of the unknown
❌Fear of other people's opinions
❌Fear of getting started

Only cure for fear is action...one small step daily. Before you know it you are doing the very thing you thought you couldn't do and you know what too....people's opinions don't matter!

Happy Saturday!

How did I overcome this mindset block 🤔 Read Caption 👇🏾

Fear of people's opinion was a major mindset blocker for me....why because I've had experiences where I've been misjudged, misunderstood or people simply wanted to share false information of me. I'm sure you've been here before. So for a very long time I would be stuck in my mind thinking about what people would think or say if I did X or Y.

But people's opinions 🙄 cannot pay the bills or bring me freedom, joy and happiness. I have to do these things for myself. Irrespective of what people have to say. Along the way I learnt that people who are ahead of you don't sit and talk about you 🤯
